About Oorja Indian Dining
Oorja Indian Dining is an Indian restaurant at 117 Shaftesbury Ave in London, near Seven Dials, where each table has a lamp that changes colour when tapped to call the waiter. The kitchen draws on Northern Indian cooking. The Railway Curry is made with lamb on the bone and skin-on potatoes, and the butter chicken comes with basmati rice and naan. Naan, including garlic naan, is served fresh and hot. The restaurant is open daily, and a tiffin lunch experience runs at lunch only. The bar pours wines and beers alongside cocktails, including one called Kesariya and a set of summer cocktails. Dessert options include crème brûlée, ice cream and sorbet, which is also offered as a palate cleanser. Seeds to freshen the palate are served after the meal.

Customer Review Summary
Butter chicken draws the most repeat mentions, described as smooth and creamy and paired with basmati rice or naan. Close behind are the Railway Curry with lamb on the bone, tikka chicken chops, paneer rolls and crispy potato cakes, while the naan is called light, airy and served fresh and hot. Cocktails earn praise too, including the kesariya and the summer cocktails, along with a northern Indian masala chai. Desserts land well, with sorbets, crème brûlée and ice cream each named by different diners. Several reviewers single out the lamp on every table, which is tapped to change colour and call a waiter, so no one has to catch a server's eye. Service is described as friendly and attentive even when the room is busy. The main criticism is size: one diner found the mains disappointing for the price, though others called portions decent or adequate. One birthday lunch ended with the staff bringing a candle and a brownie.

“Oorja is easily one of the best dining finds in London! The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between modern elegancy and cozy vibrant energy. The team welcomed us warmly and provided attentive service throughout the night. The food was outstanding—the curries were incredibly rich and rich in authentic spices without feeling overly heavy. Highlights were definitely the garlic naan (served fresh and hot) and their signature grilled dishes. Highly recommend for date nights or dinners with friends. We will definitely be back!”

“Oorja proves that a restaurant doesn't need an extensive menu when every dish is executed with care and confidence. The selection may be relatively concise, but there's more than enough on offer to showcase the kitchen's strengths. I started with the samosa, which was enjoyable and set the tone nicely, but the undisputed star of the evening was the Railway Curry. It was refreshing to be served lamb still attached to the bone, delivering a depth and richness of flavour that simply can't be replicated otherwise. A few skin-on potatoes added welcome texture and substance, feeling like a thoughtful addition rather than a cost-saving measure. The naan was excellent, light, airy and clearly made in-house, with the kind of texture and freshness that elevates any curry experience. Service throughout the evening was attentive, friendly and genuinely helpful especially Lovely who was a delight. The team seemed to take real pride in ensuring guests enjoyed their meal, and there was a sense that everyone wanted to please without being overbearing. One particularly clever touch was the service system. Rather than trying to catch the eye of a busy server, you simply tap the table lamp when you need assistance. It's an elegant solution that enhances the dining experience and allows service to be responsive without constant interruptions. The wine list leans towards New World selections, making it easy to find a pairing for the bold flavours coming from the kitchen. With the Railway Curry, a Shiraz felt like the obvious choice and it complemented the dish perfectly. To finish, I was presented with a sorbet, which was delicious and served as the ideal palate cleanser after a richly flavoured main course. What impressed me most is that, for a restaurant located in a tourist district, Oorja could easily rely on its location alone. Instead, it goes the extra mile with its food, service and attention to detail. They don't need to try this hard, but I'm very glad they do. Highly recommended.”

“My wife and I are visiting London for our anniversary and her birthday. We love Indian food and wanted to find a unique experience to here. We heard about the Oorja Tiffin lunch experience and it was absolutely incredible. They only offer it at lunch so please make sure to reserve. It’s worth the trip. . Each dish was incredible in its own right. The tikka chicken chops was some of the best chicken I’ve had in my life. The chaat was flavorful and the summer cocktails were both delicately made and full of flavor. Lovie was a great server, and navigated a system issue with grace and still provided us a great experience. They surprised us with a candle and brownie for my wife’s birthday. 10/10 experience. Will come back whenever we are in London.”

“The service was amazing right from walking in and you could just smell how good the food was already! We had tried the paneer rolls (definitely a favourite), chilli chicken, chickpea curry and shrimp curry all of which were unreal. Have to mention the cocktail ‘kesariya’ was incredible🥂 Had a really great time here and will be back to try more, thank you!”
