About St James Caffé

On the tourist route between Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace, St James Caffé is a cafe at 41 Pall Mall in central London. The menu pairs cappuccino and other coffee with ciabatta and pastel de nata, so a drink and something to eat can come from the same counter. Bottled Coca-Cola and Diet Coke are sold in 200 ml bottles, and the menu does not announce that size. Orders are placed at the counter, where a tip jar sits beside the till.

Customer Review Summary

Still, the coffee draws real praise: a cappuccino described as rich and smooth, strong coffee, and a cappuccino paired with a cinnamon roll that was great in taste. Reviewers also single out the fresh juices, a delicious pastel de nata, and a custom oat milk smoothie with banana, kale, ginger and carrot. Staff are repeatedly called friendly or lovely, and one server gave a diner the extra smoothie left in the blender as a second glass for the price of one.

“The service was friendly, and the food was okay—but nothing more than that. The prices, however, were completely over the top and not justified by the quality offered. It seems they’re taking advantage of their location here.”

“Lovely staff. The most delicious pastel de nata. Good strong coffee. A little pricey but it's an independent cafe in central London so 🤷”

“A very shabby bar for the area it’s in. The place leaves a lot to be desired and, to make matters worse, we were charged £5.50 for a tiny 200 ml Coca-Cola, which is completely unreasonable. It was also unbearably hot inside—worse than a sauna. We had to move outside to the terrace, and even though it was 35°C outside, it was still much more comfortable than being inside the bar. We left feeling completely ripped off because of the prices. We definitely won’t be coming back and wouldn’t recommend this place. There are far better places nearby that don’t try to take advantage of their customers. I wish it were possible to give 0 stars, because that’s what this place deserves.”

“The coffee was top-tier — rich, smooth, and perfectly made. But what really stood out were the fresh juices… you can actually taste the freshness in every sip. Great atmosphere, calm vibe, and perfect spot if you appreciate quality over everything. Definitely a place I’ll keep coming back to.”

“A lovely little cafe and very nice food and very nicely presented. However, I was taken aback by the price of the ciabatta. I had a ciabatta and a cappuccino and it was £20.50. Of that, £15.00 for the ciabatta. A nice place but be prepared for the high prices. Not some where I could go to everyday for lunch sadly.”
