About Breadline Cafe

Breadline Cafe is a tiny cafe in London, at 4 Duncannon St, with a few small tables inside. The menu centres on English breakfast, a fry-up plated with eggs, bacon, sausages, baked beans, grilled tomatoes and toast. A bacon, sausage and egg sandwich covers a lighter order, and fish and chips is also on the menu. Carrot cake is there for something sweet. Service runs at the counter: customers walk in, pick a table, order and pay at the counter, then wait for their drinks to arrive. Staff say payment is cash only, so bring notes or coins. There are no restrooms on site.

Customer Review Summary

Most reviewers come for the English breakfast, described as hearty, with perfectly cooked eggs, crispy bacon, sausages, baked beans, grilled tomatoes and buttery toast. Close behind are the bacon, sausage and egg sandwich, which one diner says kept them going all day, and fish and chips that another found fresh and crispy. One reviewer also praises the carrot cake and hot drinks, while another calls the coffee fine. Service is repeatedly described as friendly and quick, and several find the value good for a spot so close to tourist attractions. One reviewer notes the tables are small and wouldn't bring a group larger than four. The criticism is specific. One family received a cold egg sandwich of plain white bread with a single egg, and fish that was hot outside but cold in the middle. Another reviewer was told cash only but saw others pay by card, then was charged for coffee on top of an English breakfast that already included coffee or tea.

“Great little spot. Would recommend a stop if in the area. Food is excellent. Coffee isn’t Australian standard, but was fine. Service is upfront and without frills. The restaurant was mostly filled with locals and a few tourists. Tables are a bit small, so wouldn’t come with a group larger than 4”

“DO NOT STOP HERE, save your money. we were quickly sat at a table and ordered a soup, fish and chips and an egg sandwich as a family of four. We got handed dirty and VERY greasy glasses with visible stains. then the food came. The soup was fine and tasted fine enough. But the egg sandwich and fish was.. not, the first thing to come was the egg sandwich it was a plane cold piece of white bread with a single egg inside, not even egg salad like they said. We looked and saw they had a toaster, yet our bread was as cold as mentioned in this review. Then the fish… oh lord. The outside was extremely hot and looked fine until you took your second bite, it was cold and looked raw.. definitely not pleasing in the slightest. If you come to london save yourself some time and money and DO NOT stop here.”

“I had the best English breakfast at this restaurant! The plate was hearty and delicious, featuring perfectly cooked eggs, crispy bacon, savory sausages, baked beans, grilled tomatoes, and buttery toast. Everything was fresh and flavorful, making it the perfect start to my day. The atmosphere was cozy, and the service was friendly and attentive. If you’re looking for an authentic English breakfast experience, this place is a must-visit!”

“We came here because we were passing by and fell in love with the atmosphere of this place. So we ordered and enjoyed the view through the window. The food was amazing, typically made british breakfast, made as it should it be made. Wonderful hot drinks and even better carrot cake. We really recommend eating here, before a day full of sightseeing.”

“The good - Food was nice and decently priced. Staff were friendly and food was served quickly. The bad - We were told cash only, however subsequently we saw other customers paying by card. We ordered an English breakfast which includes coffee or tea (we picked coffee), and also ordered toast and tea. However, we were charged for English breakfast, toast and coffee just to earn a few extra pence from us (the a la carte coffee is £3.30 while the tea is £2.50). Not sure if we are being picked on because we are Asian tourists.”
