About Mike's Cafe

Mike's Cafe is a café and breakfast restaurant in Notting Hill, just off Portobello Road, on Blenheim Crescent. The original 1960s red booths remain in place, alongside a menu that runs from full English breakfast and eggs royale to bubble and squeak. The kitchen also serves burgers, fish and chips, and French toast, with vegetarian options included though vegan choices are limited. Outdoor tables extend seating beyond the booths, and dogs are welcome there. A step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs are available for families with young children. Reservations are recommended, since a queue for a table is common on weekends. The café opens Wednesday to Sunday for daytime service only, closing Mondays and Tuesdays.

Customer Review Summary

Full and half English breakfasts draw the most praise, with reviewers repeatedly calling out crispy thick bacon, well-cooked hash browns, and generous portions, and several singling out the smashed avocado and bacon and a juicy burger as standouts. Eggs Benedict and gammon with bubble and squeak also earn mentions, though a few note overdone or overcooked eggs and one describes underseasoned bubble and squeak. Service is frequently called friendly, fast, and efficient, with one reviewer receiving free pancakes after an order mix-up, but a recurring and serious complaint runs through several reviews describing a short-haired blonde staff member as dismissive or shouting at customers and colleagues, with one family leaving over it and another reviewer separately naming a waitress they felt was rude and got their order wrong. Other gripes include a bill that took three requests to arrive, a forgotten coffee, an unclear wine menu, and one diner unsettled by another customer's dog on the furniture. Most describe queues on weekends and a lively, packed atmosphere.

“The best English breakfast I've ever had, with great Caribbean vibes”

“Amazing breakfast with very nice staff! We ordered one half English and one full English(the half was for one person and the full for two). Everything was cool nicely and tea was great! Due to a wrong order we even got free pancakes(that we split between 4 people and it was more than enough) and we didn’t have to pay because they would be thrown out anyways(bonus for having a table next to the front). Worth to mention the staff was outstanding, gave us a fan so we wouldn’t get too hot during the heatwave. Cheers!”

“As we wanted to experience a true English breakfast, we found this address online. We were scared to queue but only had to wait for 15 minutes not even ! The food and coffee were delicious. It’s too bad the waitress all seemed to be in a rush and were not really smiley. We did have a great time and still recommend it 💯”
