About Waterside Cafe

Moored on the canal at Little Venice on the Regent's Canal, Waterside Cafe is an all-day cafe and restaurant set aboard a boat off Warwick Crescent in London. Breakfast and brunch run through the day, with a full English breakfast, toasties and poached egg plates such as Eggs Royale, alongside coffee, chai latte and tea. Cakes and pastries, croissants among them, suit a shorter coffee stop. Seating works two ways, with tables inside the boat and chairs out on the towpath for anyone who wants to eat outdoors, and walking to the rear of the boat gets you a spot set apart like a private booth. Dogs are welcome on board, and high chairs mean families with young children can settle in. The cafe takes walk-ins rather than bookings and opens daily. Drinks sometimes arrive in metal mugs or paper cups rather than china.

Customer Review Summary

The food draws the sharpest criticism. One reviewer describes poached eggs sitting in vinegary water, rubbery mushrooms and bland sausages for a breakfast they call overpriced, while another found the Eggs Royale portions small with eggs not correctly poached, and the chai latte very average. Smaller complaints include metal mugs that get very hot, paper cups for table service, no napkins, and a tip prompt at payment that one reviewer disliked even for a coffee. Another reviewer calls the food basic but good, and a few find the prices reasonable.

“What a wonderful spot, right on the canal, it’s the perfect place to enjoy brunch, especially on a sunny day and soak up the atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. The English breakfast was generous and really filling, and the coffee was exceptional. I’d also highly recommend the croissant with the pistachio topping, it was absolutely delicious! Thank you Arthur! A lovely place that me and my husband will be definitely be returning to.”

“Absolutely love the location, very quirky, a quiet atmosphere with a slight murmer of a buzz in the background. But £20 for poached eggs in a puddle of vinegary water, rubbery mushrooms and very blande sausages. Rip off, tourist trap, better off walking further and finding somewhere tastier to eat! Responding to my reviews reply: as you can see from my on line banking statment, the breakfast was £20.85, maybe i should have specified that i had to pay for tea seperately, which was probably the only decent thing i had during my visit - but how hard is it to get tea wrong? As for your 40% regular customers, maybe they dont have any financial constraints, or taste buds? Have you asked your staff if i was rude to them that day? I think it would have been rude of me to ask for my eggs not to come in a puddle of vinegar water. If u feel me giving my honest opinion, and warning the general public to avoid your overpriced, low quality establishment as me being rude, then i will be the rudest person on earth. Where the food is good i will say, where it is really bad, i will warn. Best wishes scamming good people out of their hard earned money, and a respectful nod to you for taking money from the rich that dont know better. Peace, one love”

“This is a very special spot for a coffee lunch breakfast or a slice of cake, the café is a canal boat which you can go in or you can sit on the chairs outside. There is a particularly nice spot to sit in if you walk all the way down the boat, it is like a private booth. I really enjoyed the chocolate and orange cake here as well as my flat white. Some of the mugs are made of metal and get very hot and it is quite hard to drink from so my only suggestion would be that they stopped using those metal mugs. The food here is nice, but it is not particularly fancy, but the price is also reflect that. I have removed stars due to the option when paying for you to tip. I do not think this is good and you should not force customers to have to decide whether to tip or not especially if they are just ordering a coffee.”

“It’s a nice place to stop and sit down for a coffee or a short breakfast. You have a lovely view on the canal. The price of the coffee is for London reasonable and was quite good. The only thing I don’t like: when I have coffee at the table I would rather have a real Coffee Cup and not a paper one”

“What a gorgeous waterside cafe! The scenery is absolutely beautiful. Very tranquil and picturesque. The food exceeded our expectations and the service was spot on. Mohammed, our waiter, was very friendly, well mannered and attentive. Fantastic experience! We'll be back”
