About Two Chairmen
Two Chairmen is an 18th century pub at 39 Dartmouth St in London, next to St James's Park. The building keeps its original beams and leaded windows, and seating is available both downstairs and upstairs. The kitchen serves fish and chips alongside a steak and ale pie, with onion rings as a side. Guests order food and drinks at the bar, and the food is brought to the table. Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is what reviewers return to most, with the breading and freshly cooked fish praised, though one diner found the fish overcooked and a touch dry. Close behind are a steak and ale pie with charred cabbage, thick chips and gravy, plus onion rings, a mushroom chilli, mac and cheese, and garlic bread that one reviewer's wife called the star of the show. One reviewer found the meat too peppered. Service draws steady praise, with several singling out a friendly server, and one visitor was offered hot tea on the house. A group of 14 without reservations was looked after upstairs. Reviewers describe a lively, busy room with an old gentleman's club feel, ordering at the bar and food brought to the table, and some mention the crowd outside and watching a game. Seating is limited, and one reviewer found the air conditioning a bit cold over time. Many mention its closeness to Buckingham Palace, and one returning visitor has come back four years in a row.

“An absolutely great experience. The service was super friendly and the food arrived quickly. And the atmosphere was amazing. This old aesthetic gives a comfortable feeling! However, the air conditioning was a bit cold, in my opinion, which became a bit uncomfortable in the long run. But everything else was definitely predominant. So I would definitely come back next time I'm in London!”

“We loved everything! The meat was a bit too much peppered for me, but my boyfriend loved it!”

“We visited Two Chairmen near Buckingham Palace for breakfast in October 2025, right after watching the morning parade, and we were actually the first customers of the day. We had fish and chips, which were freshly cooked. A few other dishes were also good. Even though it’s a pub, the owner kindly offered us hot tea on the house, which we really appreciated. The atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, especially as visitors from Thailand. A simple but memorable stop. We’re glad we came across this place.”

“Steak & Ale Pie with charred cabbage, thick chips and gravy. Great classic meal. Simple & tasty. Great traditional pub with good service and range of drinks. Certainly worth the visit. Would come again.”
