About The Star
The Star is a pub in Highgate, London, on Chester Rd, where the BBQ is cooked in front of customers. The BBQ menu includes BBQ salmon served with sautéed potatoes, and the Star Burger comes with rosemary sautéed potatoes. Behind the bar, two cask ales sit alongside familiar beers, with wines and cocktails also on offer. Live jam sessions and open mic nights give musicians a stage and give everyone else live music to listen to. Inside, exposed brick walls, a boarded floor and tall windows frame sofas as well as traditional tables and chairs. A first-floor function room can be hired privately for groups. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most to the BBQ, with the grilled salmon, served with asparagus, sauteed potatoes and charred cherry tomatoes under crispy skin, drawing the warmest praise. The Star Burger comes close behind, described as juicy and tasty, with a quality bun and rosemary potatoes that are not fried. Others mention a goat's cheese, roasted pepper and pesto panini eaten in the back garden, and a platter of cheeses, meat and bread shared at the table on a Friday evening. Drinks get steady mention too, from fresh, cold pints to a great selection of wines and cocktails. Several describe friendly staff, including landladies who stop to chat, and a relaxed, stylish room with warm lighting and tall windows. Live music, from Friday jams to open mic nights, is noted as coming at no extra cost. One diner enjoyed a drink outside while the chef cooked the salmon right in front of them.

“I'm from the West Coast US where we do know hamburgers but the one I had at The Star Pub Highgate is the best I've had in years....a quality bun, delicious grilled beef and tasty toppings, plus wonderful rosemary seasoned potatoes, not fried. It was a Sunday evening before the football final, still quiet enough to enjoy the live music and talk but I'm sure it will be a blast later on. The ambiance is open and graceful with beautiful tall windows looking out into the neighborhood making it feel like a welcome destination.”

“Tony and his business partners have only recently taken over the Star. It's not very busy this Thursday lunchtime. In the cosy back garden, I'm enjoying a 'Grilled Panini (goat's cheese, roasted peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, pesto)' from the bar menu. Category: Moderate Ambience: 5 stars Food: 5 stars Value for money: 4 stars Return visit factor: 5 stars”

“Wow! What a stunning refurbishment - the new owners Suzie and Vanessa have created a gorgeous pub and private function space. We have visited a few times since they re-opened this iconic neighbourhood pub 2 weeks ago: the pints are fresh and cold, great selection of wines and cocktails, the BBQ menu is a winner, and of course, live music (jams and open mic nights)! This is definitely our new local. Congratulations to the team! ❤️”
