Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the friendly, welcoming bar staff, who are described as polite, helpful and quick to share the history of the pub and the old neighborhood. Close behind is the real ales and cask beer, with one reviewer finding three casks all perfect temperature and delicious, and others praising a good pint and a huge range of drinks. Several mention a cosy, quaint interior full of nooks and crannies, and a mix of locals and visitors. Food gets lighter mention, including a sausage and red onion lunch, scampi and chips, and a fish fingers sandwich. Complaints are few but specific. One reviewer found the red wines quite awful, and another describes a late Thursday shift where a man in a blue shirt was passive aggressive and allowed other customers to make racist and anti-immigrant comments. That reviewer still praised two other bartenders. Another reviewer's closing note was that the pub hosted a quiz league event in its upstairs room, with rave feedback afterward.

“Have been coming here several times when traveling have always had 5 star service from tatiana and alex but tonight thursday the 9th from 9 pm to close the man in blue shirt was very passive aggressive and allowed other customers to make racist and anti-immigrant comments. I would love to come back for Alex and Tatiana’s service but he soured the experience when this had been my favorite spot. He would not tell me his name and was very rude to other americans in the bar, would not recommend to american travelers unless Alex or tatiana are working, they are amazing.”

“This place is fantastic. We’re staying at a nearby hotel and it’s been a real treat finding it. We had a simple but delicious lunch of sausage and red onion, along with a few pints, all of which were excellent. The staff are genuinely friendly and courteous, and the pub has a great atmosphere—intimate inside with a lively, inviting exterior in the evening. A top-notch spot I’d happily recommend to friends.”

“This is a lovely little pub located just off Russell square. It's very quaint and full of nooks and crannies. Gorgeous. I am with the quiz league of London and they kindly let us hold our quiz in their upstairs room. The staff were great from the moment I walked in. I always ask for feedback and well, I got rave reviews Cracking little pub Had a great time And most of all great praise for the staff Lovely staff, very friendly ,among the best. Heard they do a good lunch too. There is a huge range of drinks of all kinds. Just moments from the British museum, this pub is steeped in history from Queen Anne to the Bloomsbury set. It's wonderful to see it so well preserved. Highly recommended Thanks again Jane”

“Hands down the best pub in London. Ana and Ashley run this place like benevolent monarchs of merriment, and the crowd is wonderfully eclectic so you’re virtually guaranteed to leave with at least one story worth retelling. Come for the pints, stay for the banter, return because you’ve accidentally found your new local.”

“I’ve been suggested by a friend in my workplace. it is a hidden gem after all behind the Bloomsbury chaos. The old vibe is the one that makes me my routine from now on. Plus it’s quite quiet pub, I love it. The bartender is very helpful.”
