Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the friendly, welcoming staff at this old-school pub down a side alley near Borough Market and London Bridge. Several mention being served straight away or with swift service, and one says the barmaid let them taste beers before choosing. Drinkers praise the well kept ales, with three on offer, decent Timothy Taylor Landlord, a good range of lager and IPA, and zero-alcohol beer options. Others describe a buzzing but relaxed Sunday afternoon with sport on at low volume, clean toilets, and no rowdy crowds. Food gets less attention, and the one detailed complaint concerns the fish and chips, with a fillet described as tired, dry and chewy and served with French fries instead of proper chips. Another reviewer notes the small indoor seating area means standing or drinking outside when it is busy. One visitor recalls the manager and staff putting the Australian Open on so their group could watch the match.

“An actual pub selling beer to normal people. No tourists, no kids, no pretensions. Only three ales but good ones and well kept, and a good range of lager and ipa. Fans of Victorian architecture will appreciate the eccentric tudor inspired building.”

“Make yourself a favor and have a meal here. We didn't want to have a meal standing between the crowd in Borough Market. We wanted to have a real local meal seating at a table and that's how we ended at this nice place. We explored the area and saw a banner at this alley. We were delighted that the people serving treated us as if we were their friends. We felt welcomed by the way they offered some food and drinks. They also talked us about the food options on the menu and made some recommendations. Loved this place and I am sure I will come back any other time.”

“Lovely, small pub down a side alley off Borough High Street. Swift service, decent Timothy Taylor Landlord beer, cheerful staff, friendly punters, all in all a good venue. I notice they also have a function room upstairs.”

“Friendly and welcoming, do not get put off as its down an alley. Barmaid will make you feel right at home and will even let you taste some beers if you are not sure. Shows football as well, so that was a win for me but not the wife.”

“Very traditional pub (at least, that's how I felt), good prices, VERY good service (thanks for the Cydre glass), no tourist-scam. Just a stone's throw away from the main paths. Definetely worth it, will come again, when staying the next time in London!”
