Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often point to the beer, with a good selection of cask and keg and even draught Budweiser singled out, alongside a spot on the water with outside tables in the sun. Food draws praise for fish and chips, a steak sandwich, a fish pie and truffle fries, with generous portions mentioned, and the staff are repeatedly called friendly. Close behind, the pies split opinion: one diner found the rib beef pie lacking in flavor and gristly, though the mash and carrots were pleasant. Service draws the most complaints. One reviewer describes ordering everything at the bar, getting no table service, and finding a 10% service charge on the receipt. The same reviewer was refused a 20% app discount at one visit, then had it applied by a different staff member. Others mention waiting at the bar for a good five minutes, and the kitchen closing at 7 with menus simply taken away and no warning, with last orders called at 9.30 despite plenty of customers still there.

“Unfortunately, this is not a review based on a single bad experience. We have visited this pub twice, and both visits left us disappointed. The first time, we came for a quick family lunch. We ordered everything ourselves at the bar and received virtually no table service whatsoever. We had to ask someone to wipe our table, despite the pub not being busy at all, only three or four tables were occupied, while the available tables were either dirty or simply too small for our group. I paid for the food and drinks and noticed that the total seemed slightly higher than expected. After our meal, I checked the receipt and discovered that a 10% service charge had been added without my knowledge. I have absolutely nothing against tipping, especially as I am very familiar with the hospitality industry myself, but I do object to being charged for service when the only thing that was done was bringing food to the table. Our second visit was just for drinks and happened to be on our wedding anniversary. We initially wanted to use a promotional voucher for a Limoncello Spritz, but were told they had run out of Limoncello. That’s completely understandable, and I would have had no issue with that. However, when we then tried to use the 20% discount available through the Dine With Us app, we were told that the pub had “nothing to do with it” and that the discount was not valid there. This was particularly confusing, as we later learned that staff members themselves use the same app to purchase discounted meals during their shifts. After contacting a family member who works for the company, we were assured that the offer should, in fact, be valid. We returned to the bar and were served by a different member of staff, who applied the discount correctly without any issues. While we appreciated that the matter was eventually resolved, the overall experience had already been negatively affected. What should have been a pleasant anniversary celebration instead became frustrating and unnecessarily confusing. The fact that one member of staff refused the discount while another applied it correctly shortly afterwards suggests a lack of training and consistency rather than a genuine issue with the offer itself. It is disappointing that staff appear to receive so little training that they do not fully understand how the promotions their own company advertises and emails to customers are supposed to work. Experiences like these make it difficult to recommend this pub. Poor communication, inconsistent knowledge of company promotions, and the automatic addition of a service charge during a largely self-service visit left us with a very negative impression.”

“Everything great, I had a steak sandwich, a fish pie, truffle fries, 2 ciders. All by myself. I'm 473lbs and disabled. Thanks you.”

“One member of bar staff was particularly good- the one with short blond hair and black nail varnish, really nice guy, very on it and quick. The others were nice but quite inefficient, I was waiting at the bar for a good 5 minutes at one point. It was quite pricey too and the kitchen shut at 7 with no warning, they just took the menus away. Last orders were called at 9.30, which was really disappointing as there were definitely a lot of customers still there and, again this wasn't made clear beforehand that the opening hours were different from those on Google. So I'm not sure I'd rush back”

“I was thrilled to find draft Budweiser available here! 🍻 It's quite rare to come across, which made my visit to this pub even better. Definitely a huge plus in my book! 😊 Highly recommend checking it out. 👍🍺”
