About Kings Arms

Kings Arms is a pub and restaurant on King William Walk, with a menu spanning 56 dishes across a main and seasonal list. Starters include king prawns and chorizo, salt and pepper squid, and battered halloumi, while a butternut squash soup appears in both standard and vegan versions. A courtyard terrace at the back offers seating and a fire pit, and outdoor tables extend the dining space further. Orders can be placed and paid at the bar or through an app and QR code system at the table. The entrance is step-free for visitors with mobility needs, and dogs are welcome inside. A quiz night runs on the schedule, and free Wi-Fi is available throughout. The pub opens daily, and reservations are recommended. A rotating tap selection includes a beer sampler paddle for those wanting to try a few at once.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers consistently return for the "proper chips," repeatedly singled out as some of the best they've had, alongside a well-regarded Sunday roast and standout dishes like the Potted Devon crab, beer sampler paddle, chicken BLT, and cabbage wedge. Close behind the food, the garden and courtyard draw regular praise, with mentions of fire pits, quirky seating dens, and a lively atmosphere during events like the World Cup. Service is the other major thread, with staff repeatedly described as attentive and going above and beyond, from remembering a solo diner's birthday with a free cake and drink to accommodating a tight lunch schedule without sacrificing quality. A few reviewers note small issues: one found a broken seat and clogged sink in the ladies' toilet, another described a duck hash that tasted like it may have been cooked in old oil, and one recounted glitches with a Christmas lunch booking system and payment that required an in-person fix. Several reviewers say they'll return, and one specifically recommends the Karaage Chicken.

“Had a great cuppa here after visiting The Queen’s House. The terrace and indoor space are both so beautiful. I didn’t get food but it looked delicious; I’ll be back to enjoy some next time. Thank you, Kush, for your hospitality and kindness.”

“I had a wonderful experience here at The KingsArms. The pub was lovely, all the staff was extremely welcoming and polite. The atmosphere was warm, inviting and cozy. The food was also delicious and reminded me of home. I will definitely come back and recommend this to all my friends!!”

“A thoroughly delicious meal yesterday (28/726) at the King’s Arms! I had the chicken BLT - soft ciabatta roll with juicy chicken, heaps of bacon and tasty tomato while my husband had (and I quote) “the best chips I’ve had in this country on this [8 week] holiday”. Ice cold Coke and my husband thoroughly relished his double spiced Krakens and Coke. Please do yourself a favour and try the King’s Arms “proper chips” - they are magnificent! Very helpful and friendly service from Kush and his team, along with a warm and cosy atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. We’ll definitely be back when we next visit the UK from Australia!”

I rarely leave reviews unless service and food is outstanding & I was absolutely blown away with the atmosphere , service, attentiveness & warmth I received from the moment I walked in this beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean pub with gorgeous garden with quirky Dens and seating areas with fire pit.
