About Town of Ramsgate
Town of Ramsgate is a family-run pub in London, on the Thames riverbank at Wapping Old Stairs, where it has been since 1545. The address is 62 Wapping High St. The bar pours hand pull real ales and cask ales alongside beers on tap, with wines, spirits and cocktails. The kitchen makes its food on the premises and serves it all day, from pub classics to Pinsa pizza, plus desserts, teas and coffee. Wednesday is a pie and pint deal built around the steak and ale pie, and Sunday lunch comes with all the trimmings. Vegetarian and vegan options run across the menu. The pub opens daily and is part of the Wapping pub crawl. A quiz night is also held.

Sunday roast draws the most mentions, with reviewers describing the Sunday lunch with all the trimmings, the carvery and big portions. Close behind are the hand pull real ales and the riverside seating overlooking the Thames. Other dishes named include steak and ale pies, rhubarb crumble, and a Friday fish and chips with beer batter and skin on chips from real potatoes, which comes with a free drink. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and the atmosphere is described as lively and homely, with the quiz night and Christmas decorations getting a mention. The pub gets busy at weekends. One reviewer says booking ahead is needed to eat, and another waited briefly for a table. One first-time visitor noticed a pungent smell inside and staff who seemed stressed and aloof on a quiet afternoon, though they suspected a bad day. Reviewers also point to the offer of going large for free on any dish served with potatoes or veg.

“This is my favourite local pub, and deservedly so. Great food. Interesting crowd. Great atmosphere. Sunday lunch with all the trimmings is a highlight for me, but not when I'm on a diet. BIG portions. You need to book in advance for the weekend if you want to eat, as it gets really busy.”

“superb cask ale pub on the river just up the road from Wapping station... Great selection of hand pull real ales.. paid £6.20 for a pint of Harvey's which is standard for London. plenty of tables and very quiet on a Tuesday evening.. worth heading here from the City to avoid the crowds. Highly recommended for real ale lovers.”
