About Black Cat
Black Cat is an independent pub at 9 Winslade Way in London, formerly a Young's pub called the Catford Ram. The kitchen serves a Caribbean (Barbadian) food menu, and bar snacks such as scampi fries are available at the bar. Beer is keg only, from familiar brands. Live sport shows on multiple screens, including Sky and TNT, so matches can be watched with a drink in hand. A pool table and a dartboard give the room games of its own. The pub also hosts live music nights and karaoke, and its DJ nights mix reggae, ska, disco and Motown. A jukebox sits alongside the live programme. The interior is windowless.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers describe a proper traditional locals pub, with live sport on multiple screens, including Sky and TNT matches and World Cup football, as the main draw. Pool and darts sit close behind, and there is a jukebox too. Friendly staff and regulars come up repeatedly, along with drinks called cheap or reasonably priced, from Guinness and Stella to a gin and tonic paired with a bar snack of scampi fries. Live music nights and a New Year's Eve DJ set mixing reggae, ska, disco and Motown also earn praise. One reviewer credits a newly opened kitchen with proper food that hasn't been microwaved from frozen, and another describes exceptional freshly made Caribbean dishes. The main criticism is the mood. The pub is windowless, one reviewer calls it an acquired taste, and another finds the atmosphere gloomy and wants a weekend DJ to liven things up. A few note it is very quiet during the day. On busier days, pool is popular, with customers chalking their names up for the next game.

“It’s a nice pub I went here for my 18th and had a great time and I’ve been here for the last few World Cup games, it’s a big pub lots of space with a pool table and massive screens for the football, a pint of Guiness is £6 and a bottle of beer is £4 and a pint is £5”

“A windowless session artists' hang out. Staff were friendly and Stella £5 per pint so not all bad.”

“🚇 Catford Bridge 🍺 £5.00 Guinness The Black Cat sits on the edge of the Catford Centre shopping precinct in Catford, southeast London. The nearest station is Catford Bridge. The pub first opened in 1974 as the Catford Ram. This former Young’s house was built as part of the Catford Centre development, with the iconic giant fibreglass cat guarding the main entrance. It closed in 2015 to be refurbished and rebranded as The Black Cat, honouring Catford’s most famous landmark. It also boasts a unique cellar, located above the pub rather than below. Inside, this spacious one-bar venue is wedge-shaped and windowless, aside from the entrance doors. The servery is on the right as you enter, with a pool table and dartboard at the back right. The bar is split-level, with a raised seating area on the left-hand side. The décor is traditional, featuring a bright, well-lit bar area. Walls combine faux-brick wallpaper with dark blue paint, complemented by dark woodwork, ample seating, and a jazzy carpet. An eclectic mix of historical photos, music and film posters, and mirrors lines the walls. My favourites were the Nevermind album cover by Nirvana and a huge Bass mirror. Beer is keg-only, with a range of familiar brands. I opted for a Guinness, an excellent pint and reasonably priced at a fiver. No food is served at present, but bar snacks are available if you’re peckish. I arrived around 2:30pm on a mild Saturday afternoon in February. The pub was busy with local punters enjoying a afternoon tipple. The atmosphere was upbeat, with horse racing, rugby, and the footy showing on multiple screens around the bar. Service was excellent — I chatted with the guv’nor, who was friendly and personable. I also met fellow pub enthusiast @SELondonBoozers for a pint and a catch-up — top fella. The pub shows live sport, including Premier League matches on Sky and TNT. There are also live music and karaoke nights. From the outside, you would be fair to say I’ll give this one a miss but looks can be deceiving. This is a friendly locals pub with a solid guv’nor overseeing things. The surroundings are comfortable and there’s plenty to keep you entertained. My pint was top notch and only cost a fiver. I really enjoyed it here, this is definitely a Black Cat that should cross your path. 📅 14th February 2026”

“This pub was the Catford Ram back in the day, a Young's pub. It's now independent. I hadn't been in there for years, which is a shame as I have discovered a gem! I popped in with a friend for a quick drink, just to check it out. It had a relaxed, friendly vibe, a proper local pub with different screens for sports, a pool table and some music. The pool was popular, with customers chalking up their names for the next game. I liked it so much, that I went there on NYE with a friend to check out DJ Betty who was great! Real mix of music - Reggae, Ska, Disco, Motown, 80's/90's. Everyone was genuinely friendly, the bar staff were great, and we had a great dance! Very impressed with the cost of drinks. We had Gordon's Pink gin and tonic, plus a bar snack for just over £11 which I reckon is the cheapest in Catford. I enjoyed the scampi fries- I hadn't eaten a packet in years! We are losing so many pubs, it's great to find one that prides itself on being a proper traditional local boozer that really felt like it reflected the Catford community (important with the more recent gentrification in the area). We will definitely be back. I urge people to check it out. You won't be disappointed. Cheers 🥂”

“Great atmosphere and all the locals are friendly. Great for sky and tnt sports. Pool table and darts. Staff are friendly and the drinks are reasonably priced. Even the owner (Jesse) will play you a game of pool, but be warned he is good.”
