Quick info
About The Old Swan Inn
The Old Swan Inn is a gastropub on Church St in Llantwit Major, set in a building about 400 years old and counted among the town's oldest pubs. Inside, an open fire and an old-world interior sit alongside pirate smuggling tales tied to the place. The kitchen prepares its food in house rather than serving it from frozen packs. The menu includes a chicken and peppercorn pie, with a pie of the day as another choice, as well as fish and chips and a Sunday dinner. At the bar, local ales share space with a wine selection. Dogs are welcome, so owners can bring them along.

Customer Review Summary
The old building is the main draw, with reviewers describing a pub about 400 years old where stepping through the wooden doors feels like going back in time, complete with an open fire and many local ales. Locals and staff are repeatedly called friendly. Food comes close behind. Diners single out the half roasted chicken, the fish and chips, and a steak that comes with a pint, while others praise the goat cheese starters, the beef burger and a cheese and chutney baguette. Several say the kitchen cooks from scratch at good prices, and one calls the Sunday dinner the best they have had out. The one complaint is a pie of the day whose gravy was a tad too watery. That same reviewer enjoyed the jerk chicken starter with mango salsa and an Eton mess with an interesting presentation.

“Very old place, still maintaining it's oldy worldy appearance, about 400 years old with pirates smuggling tales to boot. Very pleasant staff, customers and service too. Goody goody gumdrops, luvly jubly, shot hit. 🙂👍”

“Found this beautiful historical pub and restaurant thanks to "Historic Pubs of Wales" book. When you arrive, Google the history and order one of the many authentic local ales on offer. We arrived on Wednesday and ate steak, which comes with a pint, served by Rocco. The food was absolutely outstanding. Add to that, an open fire, friendly and communal atmosphere. Don't miss this one - pencil it in. Five stars all the way ✨️”

“On the recommendation of a friend we dined here. Great atmosphere and great food with many local beers and a great wine selection. The staff are very friendly and helpful with good recommendations. There is a kids menu also. Please visit here if you are in Llantwit Major.”

“You’ve truly stepped back in time when you enter the wooden doors. One of the oldest pubs in Llantwit with an amazing atmosphere. Fish and Chips were great. There is an outdoor area to eat, but I preferred the historic inside. The local people were so friendly and a pleasure to talk to.”
