About YO! Liverpool Speke

Diners at YO! Liverpool Speke pick Japanese plates from a conveyor belt or order from the open kitchen, where dishes are prepared in view of the tables. Sushi and sashimi come plate by plate, with larger sharing platters for groups, and nigiri and maki sit alongside a range of hot street food. The kitchen also turns out katsu curry, including a pumpkin katsu version, and rice bowls such as a Korean chicken bowl. Staff take orders and serve tables as well, so the belt is not the only way to eat. The site runs a bookable sushi school masterclass taught by the team, which lets participants roll their own sushi and carry the results home, useful for anyone who wants to learn the technique rather than just order it. Reservations are recommended. The restaurant opens Monday to Friday and stays closed on Saturdays and Sundays, so weekday visits are the only option.

Customer Review Summary

The sushi school draws the warmest praise: several describe instructors who kept the sessions informative and fun, taught new skills, and sent participants home with plenty of food, with one who booked it for children saying they will book again. Close behind, the Korean chicken bowl is called superb, and the nigiri and maki rolls are rated highly, while one reviewer flags the rice lager as a nice surprise. Portions and pricing are the recurring sting, with several calling the dishes small for what they cost and one objecting to the automatic service charge on largely belt based service. Food complaints repeat too: stingy fillings in the sushi, soaking wet rice under the katsu chicken, hot dishes not hot enough, and sushi that looked less than fresh near closing time, with one diner describing cold, stale sushi and telling others to eat elsewhere. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly even when visibly understaffed, and one mentions the robot that collects finished plates.

“My compliments to staff as they kept being friendly and managed to get it to work while being understaffed for the amount of people and tables they had to service. Their rice lager was a nice surprise, but quite pricey, however I was completely disappointed by their food offering. The band had little to almost no difference in sushi's which were very stingy on the filling, especially the seafood ones and the rice of the katsu chicken I ordered was still soaking wet. Highly unlikely I would return here.”

“YO! Sushi is all about fresh, flavorsome, and authentic Japanese food. While sushi is their specialty, they also offer a mouth-watering range of hot street food. From traditional classics to innovative fusion dishes, you’ll find a variety of options. The restaurant features a quirky conveyor belt where you can watch your food being made fresh right in front of your eyes. Their menu includes both meaty, veggie, and vegan options, such as teriyaki chicken, veggie volcano roll, and inari taco. Whether you’re dining in, ordering for delivery, or collecting your meal, YO! Liverpool Speke has you covered. So go ahead and satisfy those Japanese food cravings!”

“We came for the sushi masterclass and had Nico teach us who was super knowledgeable and a great teacher! It was a lovely experience and we made tasty sushi!”

“As ever with Yo! Sushi the food is exactly what you'd expect. Fresh and tasty if this is your thing. The Korean chicken bowl was superb. Nigiri is great. Maki rolls are great etc Prices have gone through the roof though. Some of the regular sushi bowls are £8.50 each so they soon mount up. We had a selection of bowls a coke and a beer and it was 78 quid for me and my daughter. Not cheap. Service was great. Guy was very helpful. No real atmosphere to the place. You make of it what you bring to it.”
  • Alex Jones
“After you wander around and as they say, shop till you drop, eating at one of the restaurants on site seems a great idea. Might as well be at one of the other ones but Yo! is unfortunately a total waste of time and money - cold old sushi, stale food, all so bad! At least the presentation and the service for the table service were good. Do yourself a favour and eat somewhere else.”
