Quick info
About Halewood Fish Bar
Set in Halewood Shopping Centre, Halewood Fish Bar is a fish and chips takeaway serving the surrounding part of Liverpool. Fish and chips anchors the menu, with battered fish and chips that can be ordered on their own or alongside a larger order. Service runs on a walk-in basis, so no booking is taken and customers queue at the counter to order, then carry the food off to eat elsewhere. Payment is cash only, and card payments are not accepted, so it is worth arriving with notes and coins in hand. A step-free entrance keeps the counter reachable for visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs are available for families bringing young children along. The shop opens daily, which makes it an option for a weekday lunch or a weekend order alike.

Customer Review Summary
Staff attitude dominates the reviews, with most describing the counter as unfriendly or hostile. Reviewers report being ignored while staff vanished into the back, being skipped in the queue, and having part of an order withheld while someone who came in later got the items. One says an older customer was greeted warmly while they were spoken to rudely, and that their food arrived stone cold. Another describes chaos behind the counter and mix-ups over change. A couple note a newer team member is friendlier. Opinions on the food split. One diner found the large fish and chips perfectly cooked, with batter that was neither soggy nor oily, and enjoyed a battered sausage, chips and gravy, and fried rice. A longtime regular who returns for the salt and pepper wings and chips found the cod batter dry on a recent visit, though still calls the place popular locally. One reviewer arrived to a sign reading back at 2PM, and said the food was OK but the staff were terrible.

“How can a chip shop feel its right to not give us part of an order then give somebody who comes in after us stuff we wanted? This review might go unseen but the way things were dealt with was shocking.”

“Wow.... only go here if you fancy an argument!! I only wanted some chips. One lady has an attitude and feel she should not be working with the public, however, with her attitude she can't possibly work anywhere else!”

“Halewood Fish Bar, also known as Dave's Chippy, has been my go-to spot for a number of years while I resided in the area. Even after relocating, I find myself stopping by for their salt and pepper wings and chips whenever I'm in the vicinity. Approaching this review for The Chippy Tour, I initially had a five-star rating in mind. Unfortunately, during this particular visit – the only one I can base this review on – I experienced disappointment with the batter, especially on the fish, which was somewhat dry, and not in a crispy way. Moving past this, this chippy offers a delightful selection of food, catering to a wide range of tastes, and remains a popular choice among the local community. “0 stars. I am actually confused how you can even run a business with the attitude the staff have? It’s actually laughable. From walking in and being looked at up and down and then spoken to with a tone I wouldn’t even get off my mother. And it’s even funnier that an older gentleman walked in and they were absolutely LOVELY with them! I felt that uncomfortable I wanted to just walk out and leave the food, but fortunately I am not as rude as some. In conclusion I shouldn’t have waited for the food because it was stone cold and tasted asif it’s been sat there 3 days, definitely wasn’t worth being spoken to like dirt and looked at like I have 10 heads Went for a chippy starving…walked out feeling judged and weirdly disrespected? Was only hungry 🤣”
