King Do
Quick info
About King Do
King Do runs on an evening-only schedule, opening Tuesday to Sunday and closing on Mondays, so the Chinese restaurant on Allerton Road in Woolton Village, Liverpool, plans around dinner rather than daytime trade. Reservations are recommended. Meals are table service, with waiters taking drinks orders first and returning for the food. The kitchen works through a familiar Chinese range, including kung po chicken, duck with orange, and sizzling lamb with spring onion and garlic. A step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance serves visitors with mobility needs, and high chairs make room for families with young children at the table. The same kitchen handles takeaway orders for anyone eating off site. A fish tank sits in the reception area.

Customer Review Summary
The Cantonese cooking is what reviewers return for, with the kung po chicken singled out as particularly good and the duck with orange called a firm favourite of many years. Close behind, the mixed combination starter is described as spot on, and one diner comes back for sizzling lamb with spring onion and garlic; beef with green pepper and black bean sauce, fried rice and soft noodles also draw praise, and several describe the staff as friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The dissent is substantial. One reviewer reports chicken that arrived undercooked alongside overcooked fish in breadcrumbs on a return visit, while a weekly customer describes repeated unwelcoming treatment from one server over where a baby was seated and over a walk to the fish tank. Another found the room too rowdy for conversation with no staff intervention, and a parent notes the absence of baby changing facilities. One account has the mains held back ten minutes on request and ginger left out of the noodles, both without fuss.

“Just returned from a lovely evening at King Do. We booked ahead and our table was ready when we arrived. The first thing that struck us was how friendly the staff were and as soon as we were sat down we were asked what drinks we’d like. We ordered some very reasonably priced wine and soon after our food order was taken. We had the mixed combination starter and it was spot on, everything on the plate was delicious! We asked the waiter for wait for ten minutes until the mains were brought out and were told no problem, just ask when you’d like the mains brought out. After we’d enjoyed a glass of wine we asked for our mains to be brought out and in no time at all they appeared. We had beef with green pepper and black bean sauce, kung po chicken, fried rice and soft noodles with bean sprouts. I asked for no ginger in the noodles and this wasn’t a problem. The food, it has to be said, was outstanding. The kung po chicken was particularly nice so I’d recommend that for sure. All in all I’d say King Do is possibly my favourite Chinese restaurant in Liverpool and I’d heartily recommend it 🙂”

“Have been before food was excellent. This time food was very bland chicken was not cooked. Fish and chips the fish was overcooked and the fish was in breadcrumbs. I would not recommend this restaurant. There are plenty of restaurants in Woolton Village to pick from. Give this one a miss.”
