Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the building itself, a Victorian, authentic space with upstairs dining where the architecture, décor and lighting are called stunning, grand and stylish. One reviewer notes a lift for those who cannot manage stairs. The food comes close behind. The Dirty Brunch Bun at a wedding brunch, eggs benedict with a latte, and a chicken and smoked bacon focaccia are all called delicious. Others praise the cocktails and happy hour drinks, and a chai latte on a quiet evening. Staff are mostly described as friendly and not intrusive, but the criticism is specific. One regular describes a slow wait to be seated, menus put down abruptly, a table by the toilets in a warm area without a fan in a near-empty room, and sauce nearly spilled. Another found a sandwich took ages to arrive on a day that was not busy and objected to the 10% service charge. Celebrations recur in the praise, and one diner notes a server who created a meal especially for them.

“Atmospheric, feels like an and old American bar but with historical atmosphere. Actually an old skating palace but definately somewhere with a difference. Often quite busy but not crowded. Well worth a try if You are looking for something different.”

“Wonderful restaurant with lovely food (forgot to take a photo) and excellent variety of cocktails! The two main staff members that looked after us were great and ensured we got as many happy hour drinks in as possible. Would definitely go back and recommend to everyone in the area”

“Usually come here quite often as the service, food, and atmosphere are really good. However, unfortunately, I didn't feel the same after my service today. My partner and I had dinner today between 16:30 and 17:15. The restaurant was quite empty, with maybe three or four tables occupied. Firstly, getting seated took around five minutes, which was surprising, given that the waitress was sitting, talking to what I can only assume was off-shift staff. When we were seated in this borderline-empty restaurant, we were next to the toilets and in one of the few areas without a fan. Given that the table was between the kitchen gantry and the toilets, it was extremely warm. She then threw the menus on the table and left. I am unsure why we were initially seated here, given that the place had so many other, more accommodating tables. Throughout the experience, the server seemed more focused on chatting with her off-duty colleagues than on serving customers. In her haste to put the plate on the table, she nearly spilt sauce on myself. Unfortunately, the staff member who served us clocked out before we finished our food, so we were unable to get her name from the receipt. Afterwards, we were looked after by James, who handled our bill and everything, and he was much nicer, quite chatty, and seemed genuinely interested in us as people rather than just a distraction from chatting with colleagues. We are unsure why we were treated negatively by the other girl, whether it was our age or if she just couldn't be bothered to provide a service that should be much better given the over £25 per head charge. Overall, I would definitely think twice about coming here again.”
