About Sessions Restaurant

Sessions Restaurant is a modern British restaurant on College in Lincoln, run by a college as a place where students train. Culinary students cook, while hospitality students serve and work the bar and front of house. Lunch is offered as two or three courses, and the six-course set menus include a Pub Theme Menu. Bread and butter arrives first. Cocktails are on offer, and afternoon tea is served too. Students later move on to The Old Bakery, which the college treats as its finishing school. Reservations are required. A loyalty card is offered.

Customer Review Summary

Most reviewers praise the set menu cooked and served by college students, with the six-course Pub Theme Menu and the afternoon tea singled out, and the three-course lunch described as remarkable value. Diners point to the bread and butter as a standout, and one wishes they had been given a loaf each. Others mention the soup, the liver main and the cocktail trolley. Service is called friendly, though some staff are described as nervous, slightly chaotic and not well informed. One lunch party could not find out what the fish dish of the day was, then was told it had run out ten minutes after ordering. A lower-rated visit for a birthday and anniversary lunch describes bread requested three times, a prawn cocktail whose whole lettuce leaves could not be cut, a meat pie with pastry too hard to eat, and coffee that arrived very late after repeated chasing. The diner was told the pie would be reduced on the bill, yet no way to pay just half was offered. Several still plan to return, citing the loyalty card.

“Brilliant concept. Fine dining, both cooked and served at table by the students. Six courses, all perfectly marvellous and great value. Plus cocktail trolley if you want!”

“Had a great night celebrating with staff who have achieved a lot. Hidden gem, only tell special friends.”
  • John Moyes
“Set in a beautiful building with a lovely interior. The food is very good, and exceptional value at £15 for a 3 course set menu. Considering the cost of eating out these days in the UK even somewhere quite mediocre, this is remarkably inexpensive for such high quality food. The service is very friendly, although slightly chaotic - but for me this just adds to the charm.”

“Booked a table for lunch to celebrate an 80th Birthday and 60th Wedding Anniversary. Poor service, asked 3 times for bread, we’d finished our starter before it arrived. Prawn cocktail served in glasses and it was impossible to cut up whole lettuce leaves. Meat pie’s pastry so hard it couldn’t be cut, let alone eaten. Ordered coffee, took more than 30 minutes to arrive having chased it up 3 times. The customer who ordered pie was told there would be a reduction of her bill, charged £10 for prawn cocktail, meal was approximately £14 but told no way to pay just half (£7). Not impressed. We filled in the form which we had to ask for. In the past I and friends have always enjoyed our visit, not this time. Very disappointed.”
  • Jane Hepburn
“6 courses for a set menu, we had the Pub Theme Menu, food was delicious. Staff, although some a little nervous, were all so friendly and did a fine job. The chefs and all the team should be proud of themselves. Highly recommend.”
