About The Pale

The Pale is a fish and seafood restaurant in Lincoln, on W Parade, owned and run by a chef and his team. The menu gives seafood an Irish treatment, led by the Irish Seafood Chowder, which the kitchen treats as a house speciality. A crab Celtic egg, a scotch egg made with crab, opens the meal as a starter. Oysters come with a choice of accompaniments, either lemon and tabasco or red wine and shallots, so each plate can be dressed to taste. Brunch runs from a separate breakfast menu of Irish breakfast and crepes in place of the usual dishes.

“Best meal I’ve had in a long time. Every dish was exceptional, but the scallops and the chowder in particular were unbelievably good. 👌 We decided to order a bunch of small plates so we could try a few different things, but we’ll definitely be back soon to make our way through their main menu. It was my partner’s first time trying oysters and so we ordered a selection of different accompaniments. Unbelievably fresh and he now loves them. The waiter was really friendly and provided a great service too. 11/10 would recommend visiting The Pale.”

“Thank you for a wonderful evening. I don't know how you make sausage and mash taste so good. The carrots and parsnips were a great touch and how do you make them taste so good? It is by far the best sausage and mash I have ever tasted. The fish was perfectly cooked and the brownie was soooo good. I almost forgot the crab scotch egg which was perfect. Thank you Riley for a great service. Robbie keep doing what you do, And great value as wel. I wish you would set up a restaurant in my town.”

“Visited for Sunday brunch today and had a fantastic experience. The manager contacted me beforehand to let me know they were serving the breakfast menu rather than their usual menu so it was great to have a heads up! We enquired about Oysters and they kindly offered to prepare oysters for us as we’d made the trip specifically for them. They were absolutely delicious and the best I’ve had. The crepes were excellent, and the Irish breakfast was huge, full of flavour, and great value. The staff were all friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout our visit. We’ll definitely be back to try more of the seafood they offer on the full menu!”

“The Pale is an Irish Seafood Restaurant in the centre of Lincoln, owned and operated by chef Robbie and his team. Wonderful seafood and lovely convivial atmosphere, Robbie himself chatting to us at the table ensuring that the food was good- which it was. The chowder, a house speciality, was outstanding, as was the seafood risotto. Complemented by an excellent Sauvignon and of course a great pint of Guinness, what’s not to like. Highly recommend, just wished we lived closer!”

“As a food enthusiast (fat lad) I've just ate at The Pale for the first time and annoyed that I've not been before. Absolutely amazing food and great service. We had oysters to begin with, some with lemon and tabasco and some with red wine and shallots. Oysters were fresh and really tasty. For starters, I had the prawn and sausage skewers and my wife had the calamari. Both of these were fantastic. Mains, I had the surf and turf burger and my wife had the risotto. As with the starters, these were both amazing. Didn't have a desert as we were both absolutely stuffed. Food was outstanding and was combined with a lovely setting and brilliant service. Can't recommend highly enough and we will definitely be eating here again.”

Customer Review Summary

Oysters are what most reviewers return to, described as incredibly fresh and served with accompaniments like lemon and tabasco or red wine and shallots. Several first-timers say they were won over by them. Close behind is the chowder, called a house speciality with a rich, smoky, creamy broth and a generous starter portion. The surf and turf burger, seafood risotto, scallops, hake with fondant potatoes and the crab Celtic egg also draw praise, and one reviewer calls the sausage and mash the best they have tasted. A Sunday brunch visit singles out the crepes and a huge Irish breakfast. Portions and value come up repeatedly, and staff are described as friendly and attentive, with the chef stopping to chat at one table. No recurring complaints appear. One reviewer says the kitchen prepared oysters for them during brunch after they had made the trip specifically for them.
