About Lincoln Cathedral Cafe

Lincoln Cathedral Cafe is a cafe on Cathedral in Lincoln, set in the Old Deanery and overlooking Dean's Green beside Lincoln Cathedral. Its menu starts with a full English breakfast and moves on to sandwiches and wraps for lunch, with a halloumi burger among the options. Cakes and scones fill out the sweeter side, including lemon drizzle cake, and the drinks list includes iced coffees and a coconut milk latte. Plants line the grounds around the building, and the cathedral is in view from the cafe. Dogs are welcome, so walkers can bring them along. Tables can be booked ahead. The cafe can get very busy.

Customer Review Summary

Coffee is the most frequent draw, with reviewers calling an iced coffee very nice, a coconut milk latte excellent, and another coffee great and piping hot. Lunch plates sit close behind: a salmon salad with egg, olives and green beans is called absolutely delicious, while others praise fresh wraps with hot, crispy chips, halloumi and beef burgers, and a full English breakfast. Several describe friendly, helpful staff and a lovely setting by the cathedral, with seating inside, outside and in a courtyard, and one notes dogs are welcome. The complaints centre on the kitchen and the pace. One party waited well over half an hour for halloumi wraps, a ham sandwich and a fruit scone while later tables were served, and ended up taking the food away in containers. A club sandwich was described as dry, with tough chicken and bacon, and the fruit scone seemed small for the price. A few find the room very noisy. When a gingerbread loaf turned out very hard, a staff member offered three options, and the replacement lemon drizzle cake was soft and delicious.

“While visiting the cathedral with family members, my sister-in-law and I opted to eat inside because it was very windy outside. After a few minutes, a staff member approached and asked for our order. I can only describe her attitude as "frosty." I ordered a club sandwich and coffee. When the sandwich arrived, it consisted of three triangles of dry white bread between which was a dry, tough piece of chicken and and equally tough, overcooked slice of bacon between the top two slices of bread. The lower section of the sandwich contained a miniscule piece of lettuce and a thin slice of tomato. I could not detect any dressing on any of the bread slices. The sandwich was entirely unappetizing, and I left much of it on the plate. While sitting there, I noticed an elderly gentleman in an adjacent table who had ordered the same club sandwich, and saw that he ate only the filling but he too left the dry bread. Such a disappointment in a beautiful, historic setting. I cannot recommend this establishment. There are several excellent eating places in the nearby Bail.”

“Went for lunch whilst visiting the Cathedral area. It was extremely busy but very well organised. We were seated quickly and someone came to take our order. Very nice sandwiches and drinks.”

“Decided to pop into the Lincoln Cathedral Café this afternoon after spending some time in and around the cathedral grounds, the atmosphere was nice despite it being a little loud and the one redeeming factor from our visit was the iced coffees that we had which were very nice. Upon ordering two halloumi wraps, one ham sandwich, one banana and walnut cake, a fruit scone, and three drinks the drinks were brought to our table quite quickly alongside the one banana and walnut cake to be told that our fruit scone was on it's way shortly - after about 30-40 minutes of waiting we still hadn't received any of the remaining food whilst tables sat after us had main meals and desserts served to them before us. As we had a booked appointment we had to ask the servers to the food still yet to be brought to us in takeaway containers to eat on the way to the appointment. In terms of the actual food the halloumi wraps were okay but there was about one piece of halloumi in each of the wraps, the ham sandwich was also okay, but the most disappointing part was the fruit scone...given that it was nearly £5.00 it was incredibly small when you could get a fruit scone 3-4x the size from Pennels Garden Centre for the same if not much lower price! Definitely won't be looking to return anytime soon.”

“Lovely food and atmosphere can sit inside or out. We had booked a table and had full English breakfast which was amazing. We booked for 9.30am on a weekday so was quiet initially but by the time we left it was very busy. Very popular!”
