About Hobbsons Restaurant and Pie Shop
Hobbsons Restaurant and Pie Shop sits halfway up Steep Hill in Lincoln, a British pie shop set inside one of the city's older buildings, where a brick-lined cellar forms the main dining room. Pies are made with shortcrust pastry, ranging from venison and mash and chicken and leek to a fish pie and a vegetarian Hiro Katsu pie, with cauliflower cheese on the side and Haslett sausage rolls to take away. Puddings include cheesecake served with fresh whipped cream. The format runs as a walk-in restaurant, and the team has seated large groups of nine on the spot. Dogs are welcome inside. Parking sits at the top of the road, with a steep climb back up the hill afterwards.

Customer Review Summary
Pies are what reviewers return to, with several praising the shortcrust pastry, one calling it better than their mother's, and others singling out a venison pie with mash, a fish pie and a vegetarian katsu pie. Puddings come close behind, including a cheesecake topped with fresh whipped cream rather than squirty cream. Takeaway sausage rolls earn praise from two reviewers, one of whom calls them the best they have had, and a cauliflower cheese side gets a mention too. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly, polite and fast, and one group says nine of them were seated on a walk-in with no trouble. The setting in an old cellar of a building reviewers call haunted also comes up. The main criticism comes from a family returning after 30 years, who found the pies small and the chicken and leek pie with barely any chicken in it. A vegetarian reviewer would like another choice or two of pies. One reviewer advises parking at the top of the road to avoid the climb up the hill.

“We had 2 sausage rolls to take away (late on a Sunday afternoon) and I think it was the best sausage roll I've ever had. Very tasty, would recommend.”

“We returned as a family after 30 years having been diners previously when it was Browns Pie Shop. For years we’d talked about Brown’s pies as being the best ever. Alas, time has taken its toll. The pies are small and the chicken and leak pie barely had any chicken in it at all. Hugely disappointing. I doubt we will bother to visit again. On a positive note, try their takeaway haslett sausage rolls. They were superb.”

“They managed to accommodate 9 of us on a walk in with no trouble. All of the food was excellent and the service very friendly, all at a reasonable price.”
