About The Potting Shed Lichfield

The Potting Shed Lichfield is a family-run restaurant on Stafford Rd in Lichfield with just 22 seats. It runs a BYOB policy with no corkage charge, so guests bring their own alcohol and the glasses are provided. The chef-owner cooks and his wife serves. The kitchen works from set tasting menus, including an 8 course taster menu, and hosts themed nights such as Jamaican Night. A Sunday carvery is offered as well. Some events seat guests in a sharing-board or chef's table style around communal tables. Reservations are required. A private dining room suits groups, and a large or whole-party booking gets the restaurant to itself. Non-alcoholic drinks are available to buy for anyone not bringing their own.

Customer Review Summary

Sunday carvery is the most frequent draw at this small, family-run restaurant, with diners calling it superb and freshly cooked and praising a range of desserts, from hot puddings with custard to fruit salad and cake. Close behind are the set-menu evenings: an August tasting menu featuring crispy lemon sole, beef Rossini and a Belgian chocolate and raspberry roulade, a Jamaican night served on sharing boards where the curry stood out, and a foraging day followed by a four course dinner with venison. Others single out the haddock and chorizo fishcake starter and a parsnip and apple veloute. Reviewers describe friendly, prompt service where nothing was too much trouble, and several describe birthdays and a wedding breakfast where a large booking had the whole place to itself. Several also mention good value and bringing their own champagne or wine, with glasses provided and soft drinks available to buy.

“We had a lovely traditional Sunday carvery at this family-run restaurant with my wife, son, and a friend. The food was excellent, freshly cooked, and the desserts were delicious. We enjoyed some drinks outside before dinner, and the service throughout was polite, friendly, and prompt. A great experience all around, and definitely worth a visit!”

“What an amazing place to eat. I was taken there for a big birthday treat. Because it was a large booking, we also had it to ourselves. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the haddock and chorizo fishcake starter. It was so good I purchased some from their cabin opposite the restaurant and even been back today for more. Hannah made us all comfortable and nothing was too much trouble, while her hubby was busy cooking for us all. I 100% recommend The Potting Shed. You won’t be disappointed”

“We have our wedding breakfast at the potting shed, the food was outstanding, and so to the service, perfect venue for a small, intimate wedding breakfast, so unique as you get it all to yourselves! Ideal for couples that are also foodies 🌟 ❤️”

“The quality of food here is equal to Michelin standard. The Sunday Carvery is superb - Richard is a talented gifted chef and the ambience which he and Sarah have created is unique. A warm welcome is assured and a comprehensive selection of soft drinks is available to buy. If you want alcohol you can take your own with no corkage charge and glasses are provided. I am looking forward to trying the 8 course taster menu which at £75 a head looks tremendous value. This restaurant is definitely one to watch and book ahead.”

“We had the most incredible evening at The Potting Shed a few weeks ago and I honestly can’t recommend it highly enough. My husband Andrew and I went for the August tasting menu and from start to finish it was exceptional. Every course was beautifully thought out, presented and, most importantly, absolutely delicious. From the freshly baked Wessex mill breads and rosemary & sea salt butter, through to the roasted tomato and red pepper soup, crispy lemon sole, the incredible beef Rossini and Hasselback potatoes, and finishing with the Belgian chocolate and raspberry roulade — every dish was a little work of art. But it wasn’t just the food that made the evening so special. The atmosphere was wonderfully warm, friendly and relaxed. The waiting staff were absolutely lovely — attentive, welcoming and friendly without ever being intrusive. You really felt looked after throughout the whole evening. Being such a small, intimate venue, seating around 22 people, makes the experience feel incredibly personal. There’s a lovely sense that everything is about the food, the people and making sure guests have a genuinely memorable evening. The chef and owner is absolutely lovely too — warm, welcoming and clearly incredibly passionate about what he does. You can see how much care and creativity goes into every dish, and that passion really shines through. For the quality of the food, the attention to detail, the wonderful staff and the whole experience, I genuinely think this place deserves to be much busier. It’s a real hidden gem and exactly the sort of independent business that deserves our support. If you enjoy beautiful food, a warm and welcoming atmosphere and something a little different from a typical restaurant experience, please give The Potting Shed a try. You won’t regret it. ❤️”
