About Bistro 1709

Bistro 1709 is a modern French restaurant in Lichfield, on Lombard St, housed in an old, traditional building with seating upstairs. The menu opens with breaded brie as a starter, and the mains include pork belly with crackling and confit duck leg. A set menu is offered as two courses or three. Inside the restaurant, a deli counter called 1709@home stocks homemade pâtés, pickles, sauces, jams and relishes, so guests can buy them in the same building where they eat. Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the pork belly, praised for crispy crackling and a generous size, with the confit duck leg and John Dory also named as highlights. Starters such as the breaded brie with apricot chutney, chicken pate and terrine draw approval, and the sticky toffee pudding and gluten-free apple and raspberry crumble are mentioned among desserts. Reviewers repeatedly describe good value, friendly staff and a beautiful old building with a relaxing feel, and one praises the set menu for a family meal. Complaints are scattered but specific. One reviewer found the prawn cocktail to be wet lettuce with a few small prawns and the fish cake to be lumpy potato with no sign of fish. Others mention a very small portion of vegetables, a chicken leg that was not big, and steaks cooked slightly more than requested. One diner says the pork supplement was charged at double the menu listing and was not corrected when pointed out. Several suggest booking as the room is not huge, and one notes parking on Lombard Street is free after 6pm.

“Had a family meal here, ages ranging from 7 to 78. Staff very friendly and helpful. Menu 2 courses £25 or 3 for £30 was great. Quality of food was good, 2 of us did have steak which i will be honest was slightly over than what was asked being medium (more welldone) medium rare (medium) but nothing to really get that disappointed. We parked in Lombard street which after 6pm is free.”

“Expectations were high on visiting this independent restaurant but our experiences was very disappointing. Our starters...one good and tasty, the terrine, but the prawn cocktail was dreadful - just wet bagged lettuce and a few small prawns. My belly pork was ok...very crispy and tasty but my friend's fish cake was dreadful...just lumpy potato, no sign of fish. We left very disappointed, I'm sorry to say.”

“Had a day out in Lichfield with my mum recently. I wanted to book us somewhere nice for lunch and after searching online found this gorgeous gem. It's the most beautiful building & has a very relaxing ambience. The food was fantastic and good value. The staff here are polite and friendly, I will definitely be visiting again.”

“Once again, an absolute joy to dine here. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough, particularly for the Confit duck leg and the pork belly. The service is sublime and friendly, everything you would want and more from a restaurant. Fair pricing, fantastic quality ingredients, super service and beautiful traditional building. If I could rate it higher, I honestly would. Every bite was a delight.”

“As a single woman travelling for business I try to look for independent restaurants. My dinner at Bistro 1709 was absolutely AMAZING!! The ambience is very rustic and unassuming. The menu simple and not overcomplicated and offers something for everyone......and I am fussy!! I cannot wait for my next trip to Lichfield so that I can pay a return visit. Thank You”
