About Oadby Fish Bar
Oadby Fish Bar is a fish and chips takeaway at 81 Highcroft Ave in Leicester that pairs a classic chip shop menu with a wide variety of Greek food. Battered fish and chips sit alongside shish kebabs in pitta, served with salad, and chicken and mushroom pies are also on the menu. The shop opens Monday to Saturday during the daytime and closes on Sundays. Orders can be preordered. Chips are salted and vinegared without the customer needing to ask.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips draw the most praise, with reviewers describing crispy batter, a small portion so large it could feed a crowd, and a favourite chippy for twenty years. Chicken and mushroom pies and battered sausages also earn good words, and several mention a friendly counter team who greet customers with a smile. Criticism centres on the kebabs and the doner. Reviewers describe shish chicken that was dry, unseasoned or cold, and one large mixed shish held six small pieces of chicken and a sausage-sized piece of lamb. The lamb doner is called inconsistent, with rubbish end bits in the lunch deal, and another reviewer says it tastes like cardboard. Several feel prices have climbed, and one reviewer reports repeated upset stomachs after fish and chicken that seemed reheated. One diner saw plenty of cooked meat sitting under the grill when a pre-ordered shish took only minutes to arrive.

“Disappointed 😞 I ordered one regular chicken shish kebab and one large mixed shish (lamb and chicken). Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with both the quality and portion size. When I got home, the first thing I noticed was that the meat was cold. While I was waiting in the shop, I do not recall seeing the chicken being cooked fresh on the grill, which immediately raised concerns. After tasting it, it was clear the meat was not hot and did not seem freshly prepared. Serving lukewarm meat is not only disappointing but also raises food safety concerns. The biggest issue, however, was the portion size of the large mixed shish. The large mixed was supposed to come with two skewers of meat. Before purchasing, I specifically asked the lady to show me the skewers, and there was a generous amount of meat on them. However, what we actually received was only six small pieces of chicken and a small, sausage-sized piece of lamb. There was hardly any meat at all. It did not reflect what was shown to me before ordering and felt misleading. It honestly felt like we were given a reheated portion rather than freshly grilled meat. The only item I saw being cooked while I was there was the small lamb sausage piece — which was small to begin with. The large pitta was filled mostly with salad and very little lamb or chicken. I paid £20.50 for these two kebabs and received hardly any meat, which is extremely poor value for money. For that price, I would expect fresh, hot food and a generous portion, especially for a “large” mixed shish. Overall, the experience was very disappointing. I feel the portion did not match what was advertised or shown prior to purchase, and the food quality was below standard. I hope the shop can review this matter and offer appropriate compensation, as this was not an acceptable standard for the price paid. Based on this visit, I would not return unless this issue is properly addressed.”

“Their food is tasty, but overpriced. Main issue however is that they always, without fail, give me an upset tummy. The place doesn't necessarily seem unhygienic, however (especially on weekdays) they serve clearly old/reheated fish and chicken which for the price paid, is hugely disappointing.”

“Preordered two shish kebabs and a portion of chips today 27th Feb. Chicken was obviously from a precooked batch as it was so dry and unseasoned. No way this cooked to order in the 10mins in took to get there. In fact saw lots of meat sat cooked under the grill. So a waste of £21.30. It's the worst shish I've ever had. The chips were salt n vinegared without asking. I do not have vinegar so customer service not great on that front today either.”
