Rahat Restaurant
Quick info
About Rahat Restaurant
Rahat Restaurant is an Indian restaurant on Suffolk Street in Leicester, serving halal food with mostly takeaway trade and only limited seating on site. The menu changes daily, built around home cooked dishes rather than a fixed printed list, and dishes such as lamb curry and karahi served with naan can sell out before the day is done. The restaurant takes no bookings, and diners simply walk in and order at the counter. It opens daily, so the changing menu is on offer every day of the week rather than on set days. Given the daily turnover, arriving earlier in the day gives a better chance of finding the full range of curries still available.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the home cooked curries, with lamb karahi, chicken karahi and handi gosht called delicious and lip-smacking, and the soft, fresh naan singled out as the best part. Others describe a menu that changes daily, authentic food, and a dhar chawal takeaway that was tasty and succulent. Some say the food beats more hyped restaurants despite the plain interior, and one notes the small space with limited seating makes takeaway the better choice. Complaints centre on service and portions. One reviewer found nobody at the front desk and received no greeting, another said staff seemed unbothered when asked about prices, and a third reports a burnt kebab roll and an uncovered self-service salad tray. Portions draw comment too: a lamb curry with too many bones and a dhar chawal box with more soup than meat. One caller was told paya was available, then turned away at the door because the curries had run out by mid afternoon.

“Worst restaurant in leicester. Rang them regarding paya and they said they have. When we reached in the restaurant they told us its not available. Then we asked about any curry which is available they said all finished . How is this possible that everything is finished around 14.50pm ? Worst worst and worst restaurant in leicester. Not recommmended.”

“I tried their lamb karahi, chicken karahi, and handi gosht, all were absolutely delicious and lip-smacking. The best part was the soft, fresh naan. It’s a small restaurant with limited seating, so I prefer takeaway.”
