Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the flavour of the food, singling out the karahis, kebabs and platters, along with a gosht (lamb) curry described as cooked perfectly. Close behind are the Kashmiri naan and a mango lassi, while others mention the decor, ceiling lighting and large car park. Service draws repeated praise as friendly and attentive, and one vegetarian, gluten-free diner appreciated the range of options. Complaints are sharper in the lower ratings. One reviewer found the samosa chat awful and the peshwari chicken just ok. Another said the pilau lacked basmati rice, the malai tikka tasted boiled and the manager did not care. A Valentine's diner with a booking describes a wait for a table, a seat by a draughty door, a long wait for food and a fork given in place of a knife. One reviewer found it too spicy and notes it serves no alcohol. After old rice turned up in a fresh dish, staff apologised, took it away and removed it from the bill.

“An excellent dining experience at Tipu Sultan. All dishes from the starters to the mains were delicious. It was a quiet part of the day so we were seated immediately & there was ample parking. Great service from the staff also.”

“The food taste was very odd, they did not use basmati rice in pilau. Lots of colouring in the chicken dish Samosa was somewhat of a dumpling The aloo ticki chaat was the actual Aloo ticki and nothing else The malai tikka was basically boiled chicken Kebabs were odd. This does not resemble the Tipu Sultan in Birmingham I did take it up with the manager and he didn’t care. Very poor quality food and odd taste.”

“A wonderful dining experience for myself and my partner. I live in Oadby but hadn't been in before. I'll certainly be back again! The food was well prepared and presented, and the decor is beautiful - particularly if you look up to the ceiling and lighting arrangements. Service was brilliant, our waitress Ammara was attentive and made sure everything was exactly as should be! The food was very well priced (we spend about £50 for two meals with starters, mains and drinks). The food was delicious and I would certainly visit in future :)”

“I haven’t had a decent Indian meal for a while, so we decided to try Tipu Sultan. We still haven’t had a decent Indian meal for a while! The venue itself has ample parking and the decor inside is nice. It’s clean, well decorated and the menu looks appealing. We opted for the Popadom and pickle tray, samosa chat, peshwari chicken, pilau rice and garlic naan. This was enough for two of us. The samosa chat was awful, like a blended samosa heavily coated in tamarind sauce and yoghurt. The popadoms were ok, but you can’t really mess that up. The peshwari chicken was ok, just ok. Not too spicy and the chicken was fresh and plentiful, but that’s where the compliments end. The service was average and we had to explain our order several times and we were unnecessarily warned about things not available on the menu, that turned out to be available. The price for the whole meal was only £42.50, quite reasonable, but I would have rather spent that money on fresh ingredients and cooked myself. The venue is equipped to accommodate parties up to 8 comfortably, but was just as comfortable for two. I won’t recommend this restaurant, but only because I like good food. For a reasonably cheap and average Indian meal, it’s ok.”

“Absolutely loved my experience at Tipu Sultan Restaurant with my friends. Easy parking with a large private car park and plenty of spaces. We ordered a few platters, kebabs, and karahis, and everything was full of flavour and cooked perfectly. The food tasted fresh, authentic, and absolutely delicious. Great atmosphere and friendly staff as well. Definitely worth it and will be coming back again!”
