About Mitsuki

Mitsuki is a fully halal Japanese restaurant at 109 London Rd in Leicester, with a sushi list that includes a wide range of vegetarian and vegan options. The vege taco shows the approach: a crispy nori shell filled with sushi rice and korokke, a potato croquette. Nigiri sits alongside the rolls, and the menu also covers hot dishes such as chicken katsu curry with udon noodles. Ramen, bento, gyozas, bao buns and yaki udon round out the kitchen's range. The dining room is small, with a limited number of tables. The menu runs to 20 dishes in total.

Customer Review Summary

Sushi is what most reviewers return for, from the crispy vegetable tempura roll and dragon rolls to saba nigiri and a chicken roll one regular calls a safe first-sushi choice. Close behind are the vegetarian options, including the vege taco, a fried nori shell filled with sushi rice and a korokke, and Japanese curry rice with mock duck. Diners describe the food as fresh and beautifully presented, with friendly staff. The caveats are specific: two found the lo mein average, one was disappointed by the mains, and one felt the starters were small for the portion. The room is small with close tables, so it gets noisy, and several suggest booking ahead. One regular recalls the owner taking an order of five rolls, four starters and drinks without writing anything down.

“Mitsuki has been a regular for me for the longest time. In-fact this was the place that I tried my first ever sushi. So to all those that have never tried sushi, get the chicken sushi roll - a very safe entry point. The chicken lo-mein and udon noodles with chicken katsu curry was incredible. I didn’t ask, but it’s safe to assume that the noodles were cooked fresh in-house. Incredibly authentic. Service is very attentive and efficient. I was particularly impressed with the owner as she took our order for the first time , which included 5 different rolls, 4 different starters and drinks (including mini-changes) ALL WITHOUT NOTING DOWN. Impressive. Pricing is very fair in my opinion, with a sushi roll costing an average of £10-13. Starters in my opinion, didn’t seem like good value (in terms of portion size, not taste) and since my first visit, I’ve just opted for an extra sushi roll rather than starter, but each to their own - still great food. Fully Halal too. A very safe choice, with very bold flavours.”

“It was my first time visiting Mitsuki, I will definitely be back! The flavours are amazing. They have a great menu to choose from - sushi, ramen, bento they have it all. It's a small place and table are limited so its best to reserve ahead of time. The service was great and the waitress was very kind in explaining a few things to us. Ordered the panko honey prawns, chicken gyozas, dragon rolls (phenomenal), beef teriyaki ramen, chicken and another beef dish. The flavours, the textures, the warmth from the chili oil - chefs kiss. 10/10”

“Five stars. I went for a vegetarian/vegan meal and was genuinely impressed by how much choice there was. It’s still surprisingly rare to find this many different vegetarian and vegan sushi options, and I ended up trying a bit of almost everything! Everything was fresh, beautifully presented and felt really high quality. The sushi was excellent, but I also really enjoyed the lightly fried tofu and bao buns. Great drink options too including plum wine and cold sake. Mandy, the owner, was absolutely lovely and the service throughout was amazing. The restaurant has more seating than you might expect and has a really nice, intimate feel. I’d definitely recommend booking in advance. My only small suggestion would be a little more variation in some of the vegan fillings alongside pumpkin, perhaps mushroom, tempeh, beetroot for a few different textures and flavours. Maybe fried tofu, and omelette / cream cheese / vegan cream cheese sushi roll options would be great additional veggie / vegan sushi options. Overall, a really special independent restaurant with probably the best vegetarian/vegan sushi selection I’ve found in Leicester. Genuinely better than wakaze, Maki & Ramen. Will definitely be back!”

“Had a lovely meal here with friends. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food arrived quickly - it was beautifully presented and delicious. I've never tried freshly prepared sushi before but it makes such a difference. The mackerel (saba nigiri) was my favourite. Will definitely come back.”

“My boyfriend and I went down because both of us were craving for sushi and this was the most well rated and reviewed Japanese restaurant in Leicester. All the food that we tried was 10/10 except for the lo mein which was quite average. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough.I will definitely be back to try the other sushi 🍣!”
