About Gildersome Arms

Gildersome Arms is a pub on Gelderd Rd in Leeds that builds its kitchen around a daily carvery. A chef carves the meats at the counter, with turkey, gammon and beef on offer alongside vegetables and gravy, and each plate comes with a large Yorkshire pudding. Carvery plates come in different sizes, and a main menu of pub grub and onion rings runs alongside. Gluten free options sit on the menu in the same portion sizes as the regular dishes. The bar pours a selection of beers, including Coors Light, and the big fixtures show on Sky Sports and TNT Sports. An outdoor play area gives families somewhere for children to burn off energy between courses. The pub takes table bookings for groups, coach parties included, and accommodates walk-ins without a reservation. It opens daily.

Customer Review Summary

The carvery is what reviewers return for, with the Yorkshire puddings singled out most, one calling them "as big as your head" and another gorgeous. Diners describe tender, moist turkey, gammon and beef (one asked for extra fat), well-cooked veg, hot plates and delicious gravy, and one says they won't go anywhere else for a carvery. Close behind is the staff, described as pleasant, courteous and attentive even in hot weather, with one front of house worker seating a party without a reservation and a server keeping a table of nine's food arriving together for a child's birthday. Others mention a good beer selection, a child-friendly feel and gluten free dishes served in the same portion sizes as regular ones. The main complaint comes from the one diner who skipped the carvery. They describe plain pub grub and a waitress who put the dinner down so roughly that several onion rings fell off the plate, with no apology and no offer to replace it, and they wished they had ordered the carvery instead.

“Nice enough pub but the waitress practically threw my dinner onto the table, several onion rings came off the plate but she wasn't bothered. No apology. Didn't even offer to get my plate refreshed with food that hadn't collected some air miles. Not impressed. Standard of the food was plain old pub grub. I would not recommend it. The carvery looked good though. Wish I went for that.”
