About The Midnight Bell
The Midnight Bell is a brewery-run gastropub in Leeds at 101 Water Ln, pouring cask ales under its own brand. The kitchen cooks British dishes, including a Sunday roast with beef and Yorkshire pudding, a steak and ale pie served with mash, veg and a jug of gravy, and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. The courtyard gives the pub a second space beyond the bar. Groups can reserve the snug or the courtyard, and large party and event bookings are taken. Event menus include a buffet, and a BBQ is offered for group events, with the food adapted for vegans and vegetarians.

Customer Review Summary
Sunday roast is what reviewers return to most, with the beef, huge crispy Yorkshire pudding and lamb singled out, and one calling it one of the finest they have had in a pub. Steak and ale pie with mash and plenty of gravy comes up close behind, and a second jug was brought without fuss. Sticky toffee pudding appears as well, though one reviewer found it underwhelming for a gastropub. Portions are repeatedly called generous, and the staff are described as friendly. Group bookings get strong praise, including a BBQ with adapted vegan and vegetarian options, a buffet where the scotch eggs stood out, and a 90th birthday table that was not rushed. The complaints are specific. One reviewer says the roaring fire advertised outside was not lit despite asking, leaving the pub freezing, and another found the roast served warm, not hot. One wanted more beef. Several suggest booking, especially in sunnier months, and a reviewer who had leftovers was allowed to take them home.

“I started out looking for a completely different restaurant which had been recommended to me. Anyway, I couldn't find it, time was getting on and I came across the Midnight Bell. I wasn't disappointed. The place has a revived rustic vibe to it, beautifully presented inside, the staff were super friendly and helpful and the food was fantastic. As I was travelling for work I didn't try the beer, but if it is half as good as the food you will be onto a winner! If I'm back in Leeds at any point I will be going back...”

“Had a very enjoyable Sunday lunch here last Sunday. The food is good and the portions generous. Service was good and it's a nice pub to visit. We sat outside (weather was ideal). Not sure if it's totally necessary, but probably a good idea to book, at least during the sunnier months.”

“Met a couple of friends here for lunch. We were early but they allowed us to sit at our table. Staff really nice and friendly service quick. We all chose the steak and ale pie which came with mash and veg lots of gravy available they even happily brought us a second jug of gravy. We then had sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. Three clear plates absolutely gorgeous food. Very good price Will be back”

“We come here with our kids for meals a lot and we absolutely love it! Such a lovely pub for atmosphere and friendly staff! So when it came to booking my partner’s 40th I knew we had to come here because it has such meaning to us. The booking system was so great and the customer service was phenomenal! Carys was happy to help and answer any questions or plans I had and helped made the seamless. The staff on the evening were so attentive and friendly too. The food was brought out quickly and any empty glasses and plates were quickly cleared away. Just a fantastic team. The buffet food was exceptional! The guests will not stop talking about how nice it all was. As it is with the meals the food was so fresh and tasty. Now I don’t like scotch eggs but the scotch eggs were AMAZING! They let us take home any leftover food too and checked when we were ready for food to be cleared away. If you’re thinking about having an event here or just going for a nice meal trust me you won’t regret it.”

“Had a sunday roast here, really good portion size, which made the price worth it. Only downside side was the food was served warm, not hot. The quality of the food was good, tasty, and the beef was cooked perfectly I did have a sticky toffee pudding, which is my go to dessert, and it was a bit underwhelming for a gastropub. I would go again, although wouldnt be my first choice. Staff were friendly when they came to the table.”
