Customer Review Summary
Breakfast draws the most repeat praise, with regulars calling every plate well cooked and presented and the staff pleasant and courteous. Lunch gets similar warmth, and one reviewer calls the Sunday roast beef very good. Diners also single out a first-class soup of the day, an espresso martini and a no tai mocktail, and several describe the prices as reasonable. The terrace, music inside and dog-friendly welcome come up too. Service is the recurring complaint. Several describe slow waits, one even though the room was nearly empty, and one says a waitress walked off without a greeting or any mention of the specials. Fish and chips disappoints two reviewers, one citing too much batter on the haddock. Another reviewer found the burger patty chewy with a very thin haggis layer. One group who booked after a wedding saw their bill forgotten, asked again, waited again and finally went to the bar themselves.

“Food was okay, atmosphere was quite pretty too. But service was appalling. We went here on a Friday afternoon after my friend's wedding. I had put in the reservation that they just got married. But the service was just not attentive and very slow. There weren't that many tables and there should have been enough staff. But it was a long wait for everything. At the end we had to wait 20 minutes for the bill. They forgot, we asked again. Another wait. We ended up just going to the bar, which was another wait. Would've loved to love it, but not coming back.”

“Was so looking forward to this meal with my family as had heard great things and was the last day of my 3 week holiday from Australia. . Maybe just a bad day, primary server was good, another younger girl server no smiles for us. Menus a bit creased and grubby. Ultimate burgers were disappointing, pattie over worked and chewy, haggis layer very thin. Fish and chip main - too much batter on the haddock, the other fish main - salmon was enjoyed. We were a party of 5 in a semicircular booth, the booth material had seen better days and the two dining chairs filthy with crumbs from previous diners and stained material, couldn't believe it. I swapped one wobbly chair out with another - also stained. Desserts were had by 4 of us, carrot cake feedback was a bit dry and frosting meh, my white chocolate and raspberry ruined by strange tasting icing. Had 3 cappucinos, mine was tepid and unlike any cappucino i have had before. So sad i couldn't leave a better review.”

“Lovely atmosphere, great staff, really nice outside terrace with good music inside. Stayed for Sunday lunch and the Roast Beef was very very good. On this visit I would definitely come back regularly ! There is a noticeable improvement here since our last visit and I think management and chefs are on the ball!!”

“Had a lovely lunch at The Paper Mill today with my mum and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was fantastic, beautifully prepared and full of flavour, and the service was warm, friendly and attentive throughout. The restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous, with a lovely atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. We also loved seeing all the Scotland flags up for the football which was such a nice touch that added to the atmosphere. A wonderful place for lunch and we’ll definitely be back. Highly recommended!”

“Great food and venue let down by slow service. While I want to fully recommend this place, the service was incredibly slow and lacking in basic hospitality. For example, after being shown to our table, our waitress simply walked off without a hello, welcome, or mentioning the daily specials. From there, it felt like an uphill battle just to find out the soup of the day, place our order, and finally receive our food. It's a real shame because the soup itself was absolutely first-class. The potential is there, but the service needs serious improvement. The places was very quiet when we arrived.”
