About Barnshaw Smithy
Barnshaw Smithy is a cafe on Pepper St in Knutsford, serving a 92-dish menu that moves between Middle Eastern plates and English breakfasts. The Chicken Shawarma With Fattoush Salad and the Chicken Gyros Wrap With Tzatziki sit on the same menu as the Local Butchers Traditional English Breakfast. Vegetarian and vegan breakfasts are on offer too, and the kitchen also serves brunch dishes, chunky chips with aioli, cakes and coffees. Dogs are allowed in the downstairs area, so visitors can bring them along. Guests wait at the entrance to be seated. A reasonable-size car park serves the cafe, though spaces can be tricky to find at busy times.

“Absolutely loved the place, what makes this place great is the team working behind it and the location. Food was incredible and very generous portions and worth every penny. Parking sometime can be tricky because of the location but don't mind walk a bit to get to the place. Dog friendly, would definitely come again.”

“Really lovely food. Gorgeous place. I think the service could have been a bit better. I was on my own and felt like the customer service I received was not the same standard as those in couples or larger, which to be fair seems to be a theme at a lot of food places!”

“We came on BH Monday for brunch. At first we stood at the ‘please waited to be seated sign’ no one greeted us or helped us to be seated. After finding a table and having to find our own chairs we sat down. Order taken. We then waited over 90 minutes for the food to arrive. At no point were we told there would be a long wait or did anyone come to the table to inform us of a wait or apologise. After complaining we were told there was one table ahead of us and then it would be ours. 15 mins later still no food. Asked again. Was told they were very busy and they are now advising people of long waits. I’m the meantime other tables being served who came in after us. We were not offered further drinks/water. And then when we came to pay they had added £12 service charge which we declined to pay. Will not be returning. Food was fine but nothing special. They could have made it better with an apology and better communication but didn’t.”

“Great location, with a lovely atmosphere and even better food. Cakes were fantastic and the coffees best we’ve had in a long time. Service was friendly and attentive even though it was deservedly busy. Would definitely recommend.”

“We had breakfast at Barnshaw smithy on the 23 .4.2026 very nice breakfast i paid the bill thought it was a bit expensive. When i got home i checked the price of the menu on the website and was over charged. Next morning i whent back and was told there was a increase in price. But to my shock the menu on the table was still old price. They said they're having new ones printed there was no mention about a increase the day before or a note on the table to let people know. So they are charging customers more than it was on the menu. I was charged £11.80 over priced. how long as this been going on for and how many customers have been over charged. That must run into hundreds if not more. Will not be going again if they think they can do that to customers. Please checker your Bill. Very bad indeed”
