About Harry's Fish And Chip shop
Harry's Fish And Chip shop is a fish and chips takeaway in Hull, at 1 Amethyst Rd, where the fish is fried in beef dripping. The menu lists haddock and chips, with a jumbo haddock option for anyone who wants a bigger fillet. A fish special deal puts fish, chips and a side together in one order, and a spam buttie is on the menu for those who want something other than fish. There is no booking, as the shop works on a walk-in basis. It gets busy at times, and a wait is part of the visit then.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips built around haddock draws the most praise, with reviewers describing large white flakes, crispy piping hot batter and a jumbo haddock one diner struggled to finish. Chunky, not greasy chips and a fruity curry sauce come close behind, and one reviewer notes clean oil with no scrap residue. Portions are called big for the money, staff are repeatedly described as friendly, and one reviewer praises a spam buttie. A few say it gets busy, and one found the chips lacked crunch. The sharpest criticism comes from reviewers who remember the original shop. They report dry fish, or thin fish with raw batter inside and a sour, bitter taste, plus unseasoned peas likened to pea flavoured gravy, and two describe a rude server. One reviewer reports seeing a server's long hair trailing over food while it was boxed, and asked for the order to be cancelled and refunded.

“Placed my order, everything was cooked freshly, and as the girl serving was putting my orders in their respective boxes I noticed her long blonde hair trailing all over the food she had just placed in the trays, I told har to cancel my order and refund my payment, absolutely disgusted. I have worked in the food manufacturing industry for 45 years, a total disregard for food safety, will not use this chippy again.”

“Used to be a great little fish shop when ran by the two older gents. Sadly its gone down hill, my fish was dry.. i've never in my life been served dry fish from a chippy. Pea's are unseasoned and very bland, the chips were just fine. To top it off my mrs said the woman serving was very rude, I used to bounce between here and pollards but will be sticking to pollards from now on. What a shame.”

“My review for Fish & Chips Appreciation Society Fish , Chips and Side ( curry) Special £7 Fish - Haddock , Chips from Sagitta. Cooked on Beef Dripping. I had originally ordered Small fish, small chips & Curry. But the friendly staff pointed out the £7 special deal. Great start ! Batter on the fish was perfectly cooked with no uncooked residue to be seen and it was very nice tasting. The fish itself was spot on, lovely large flakes of pure white delicious Haddock. The chips could have done with a minute or so longer cooking, or the fryer turning up slightly as they did not have the crunch on the outside. They were very tasty though so no real problem. Curry sauce was my favourite fruity type and it really was delicious. Staff were very friendly and the place was nice and clean. All in all a very good meal at an excellent value price considering the portion size which was very good. I would certainly recommend a visit if you are in the area. A good solid 8.5 for me.”
