Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers return to the set menu, a three-course deal that includes a drink and that many call great value and very reasonably priced. Steak is the dish named most, with rump steaks described as cooked to perfection. Close behind are a pork and apple main, halibut, mussels and French onion soup, which one reviewer called the best onion soup ever. Others praise boeuf bourguignon, creamy garlic mushroom starters, crêpes and cocktails. Servers are repeatedly called lovely and friendly, and diners describe a pleasant atmosphere, though a couple visited on quiet midweek evenings. The complaints are small. One reviewer found an extra drink a little high in price and the location a little out of the way, and another recalled floppy frites on an earlier visit, though the mussels that time were marvelous. Several say they have been back more than once, and the set menu comes with a glass of prosecco or beer.

“We've visited with friends a couple of times now, and the food and service has always been excellent. Tom is fantastic, a very funny and energetic guy, and it's worth visiting just to see him. The rest of the waiting staff are also brilliant, and they work really hard to cultivate a really pleasant atmosphere. Combine that with great food, and you really can't go wrong.”

“First experience at Cognac has been exceptional! Staff are so lovely and the food was 10/10! Steak and chicken mains were perfect and so were our French onion soup and creamy garlic mushroom starters! Cocktails were also lovely! All for an amazing price too which you can’t go wrong with. Will definitely be back 🩷”

“Always a guilty pleasure. Always well satisfied. It is nice to enjoy old favourites with something new, in new and interesting combinations (this time champignons, boeuf bourguignon and crêpes) served at a pace I greatly appreciated. Allons-y! Doc.”
