Customer Review Summary

The Sunday roast draws the most mentions, with one diner praising medium rare beef and another the Sunday set menu. Generous portions run through the reviews, from a huge seafood pasta to plates described as plentiful. Close behind are the pizzas, called superb with beautifully cooked bases, and the Scarpetta with a selection of dips, which one diner says could be sold on their own. Others single out the flat iron steak, the porchetta and a garlic mushroom starter, and the Aperol Spritz and cocktails also earn praise. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and welcoming, and one diner enjoyed the rear courtyard in the sunshine. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who was left with empty drinks for quite a while while staff chatted among themselves, and who was surprised that a 20% tip was already entered on the card machine. Another diner with a severe egg allergy says the staff kept checking with the chefs. One couple finished with a cannoli dessert boxed up to take home.

“After a brilliant open day at the University of Hull (which genuinely exceeded all our expectations… Hull should be really proud of what they’ve created!), we headed to Santos on Princess Avenue for a late lunch on a gorgeous sunny Saturday. What a great find. We sat out in the rear courtyard, which was perfect in the sunshine, and the staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive throughout. The pizzas were superb. Proper authentic Italian with beautifully cooked bases and quality toppings. We also shared the Scarpetta with the selection of dips, and they were outstanding. Santos… you could easily sell those dips on their own! There was more than enough food for the four of us, prices were very reasonable, and the whole experience was relaxed from start to finish. We’ll definitely be back”

“The food is absolutely brilliant and the staff are friendly and welcoming. However, the service could be more attentive. We were left with empty drinks for quite a while before anyone came over to ask if we wanted another round, and at times the staff seemed more focused on chatting amongst themselves. I was also a little surprised that a 20% tip had already been entered on the card machine before it was handed to me, as I would have preferred to choose the amount myself. That said, these issues didn't take away from the overall experience. The food was amazing, and I would definitely return. With a bit more attention from the waiting staff, this place would be excellent.”

“During my last visit we were a party of three, including someone with a severe egg allergy. The staff were excellent, very careful, attentive, and always checking with the chefs to ensure everything was suitable. Ella was our main server and was absolutely lovely, polite, courteous, and very attentive throughout. Alberto made the experience really enjoyable too; he is always funny, engaging, and adds great energy to the evening. Another staff member was also very kind and even took photos for us, which was a thoughtful touch. I’ve visited several times over the past year with different friends, and the food is consistently delicious with brilliant service from all staff. One of my absolute favourite Italian restaurants and consistently incredible every visit!”

“The place is very nice — cozy atmosphere, kind welcoming staff, great food. I took a seafood pasta and it was a huge portion, and super good. One of the best pastas I had in my life!”

“Amazing food, it was so good. We had the Sunday set menu. The portion sizes are on the large side. But everything was cooked to perfection. If I am in Hull again, I will be going back here for sure”
