About The Masters Bar
The Masters Bar is a small Craft Union pub in Hull, found at 40 South St. A spiral staircase leads up to a second seating area, which gives the compact room extra space for a group or a match day crowd. A further flight of stairs leads to the toilets. Live sport shows on big screens, and the evenings bring live music acts alongside a DJ with karaoke. The bar serves beers and lagers, but it does not carry cask conditioned real ale, and it does not serve food. Dogs are welcome inside.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the friendly staff, from a barmaid working alone who welcomed everyone, including newcomers among a crowd of regulars, to a bartender who kept a busy Friday night moving and made sure the table got water. Close behind is the value on drinks, with John Smith's and a wide selection of beers and lagers, in a pub one long-time regular says hasn't changed much in nearly 50 years. Live sport on big screens, live music, a DJ with karaoke in the evening and a lovely outside seating area also come up. Limits are stated plainly: no cask conditioned real ale, no food, and a small room with no space for a dart board or pool table. Two reviewers left unhappy. One felt ripped off after being charged more than expected for one and a half pints of John Smith's and a pint of Moretti, and another found a member of the security staff rude to their family. One reviewer cautions to watch your step on the spiral staircase up to the extra seating.

“Great pub that I have used for nearly 50 years and the good thing about it is that it hasn't changed that much. Now a Craft Union Pub that sells drinks at great prices. Shows live sports on various big screens. Along with live music acts and a DJ with karaoke on an evening.”

“Was charged £11.90 for one and a half pints of John smiths and a pint of morreti. Should have come to less than £9. Didn't realize until after I left leaving me feeling ripped off! Won't be going back”

“Popped in for a quick pint to kill some time, friendly barmaid working on her own, she was really friendly with everyone coming in (31/07/25 12.50pm) she made me feel welcome, and there was good crowd inside, they all seemed regulars, but again wasn't made to feel out of place, will definitely use again 👍”

“Terrible pub stay far away. Felt very unfriendly and unwelcome, security on was rude to our family we get it's his job but it wasn't like we falling all over or slurring words or being loud that we would completely understand, and if that was the case we wouldn't be going into the pub. No need for him being rude from now on will be advising people to not bother with this pub”
