Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return for the food, with the daily specials singled out as insanely tasty and generous in portion. The Sunday roast is called delicious, and close behind are a mac and cheese served with perfectly toasted grilled bread slices and a caesar salad. Reviewers describe a traditional, atmospheric country pub with friendly staff, quick service and hot food. One long-standing regular chose it for a 90th birthday after more than 60 years of visits. Complaints are modest but specific. Reviewers describing a Sunday lunch and a Christmas meal found the place packed, one says the coffee is not fresh made and has been dreadful on two occasions, and a jacket potato plate was plentiful but let down by its soft skin. A Christmas diner who had pre-ordered two months earlier found no menus on hand to jog their memory, though the kitchen did send out extra gravy with the dinner in case they wanted it.

“Had a fantastic meal here recently. The atmosphere is lovely and everything we ordered tasted incredibly fresh. The mac and cheese was a real highlight for me, especially with those perfectly toasted, grilled bread slices on the side. Every dish was presented beautifully and hit the spot. We will definitely be back soon.”

“A hidden gem perfect after a morning exploring the area. Sunday roast is delicious too bad we didn't have space for desert.”

“Good atmospheric & historic country pub. Food always good, reasonably priced with nice selection of daily specials. Friendly staff. Good for drinks only pub too. Only negative is the coffee ☕️ avoid as it's not fresh made and on two occasions has been dreadful. Otherwise pay a visit and have a great time. We recommend 👌”

“Good access, just off main route and plenty parking. Traditional country pub and loads of comfortable seats at tables for 2,4,6 and more. Was busy lunchtime and staff were friendly and professional. Menu was varied and specials and snacks included. Service was quick and good was served hot. Jacket potato plate was plentiful but soft skin let it down. Other food at table was well received.”

“A huge place, tucked away in the countryside, even for Sunday lunch, it was packed, which slightly marred the visit, but proves how popular the place is. On the upside, the food was excellent, with an extensive menu, beautifully prepared and well priced, and the service was perfect. Certainly worth a return trip.”
