About The Mill, Haslemere
The Mill is a pub on Shottermill Rd in Haslemere, housed in a restored 16th-century courthouse that now serves as a traditional British local. It belongs to the Butcombe Inns group, and the kitchen makes its food on the premises from a menu that changes frequently. Beer-battered fish and chips features on that menu, and a roast with all the trimmings is served for Father's Day meals. Three cask ales are on offer at the bar. The kitchen is coeliac accredited and provides gluten-free options. Dogs are welcome, and the pub is a stop for people coming off hikes or bike rides on the Black Down Hills. The Garden Room and The Snug work as private dining areas for groups and have hosted small wedding receptions.

Customer Review Summary
Private dining for small celebrations stands out, with reviewers describing wedding lunches and breakfasts in the Garden Room and the Snug, where the team set tables, added flowers and decorations, and took drop-offs of a cake the evening before. Close behind is the food: beer-battered fish and chips, Brixham crab linguine, pork steaks with pickled blackberries and black pudding, a succulent pork rib eye, and fluffy, crispy roast potatoes at a Father's Day meal. Diners also mention cask ales, including Hops & Glory, and a squid salad starter. Reviewers repeatedly call the service friendly and attentive, and one family notes the gluten-free and coeliac-accredited kitchen. The caveats are specific. One guest's steak, requested medium rare and then rarer, arrived medium to well done with chips instead of fries, and a lobster pasta was very garlicky with little lobster. Children's burgers were too charred, and one reviewer expected larger portions for the price. One group of siblings celebrating their father's birthday received a card and a birthday pudding at the table.

“Annabelle was a fantastic host! She memorised 9 main meals plus sides and executioned the order perfectly! Her memory skills must be legendary. We had a fabulous lunch to celebrate our father’s 94th birthday and he was made to feel very special with all the additional attention that was provided. The birthday card and happy birthday pudding were a lovely surprise. Our second visit and being coeliac accredited and genuinely gluten free for our son makes this a perfect venue for our family. Thank you.”

“Although part of a chain (Butcombe Inns) the pub feels quite individual and the food is created on the premises. The menu changes frequently and includes a range of interesting variations. I had the traditional beer-battered fish and chips, a friend had Brixham crab linguine, and my two other companions had pork steaks with an interesting range of accompaniments including pickled blackberries, black pudding cubes and mustard sauce, served with sautéed potatoes and fresh vegetables. We all agreed the food was very good. Three cask ales were available, and I chose the first cask-conditioned ale from Hawkstone Brewery (of Clarkson's Farm fame), "Hops & Glory", which was exceptionally good. We ate indoors but many customers were enjoying the autumn sunshine on the attractive patio. The most impressive aspect of our visit, though, was the friendly and attentive service of all the waiting team, in particular Annabelle, who so helpfully loaded the Butcombe app on our friend's phone, which gave us £10 off the bill and many future benefits which will ensure our return!”

“Menu looks basic, but it undersells itself. For example the pork rib eye was very succulent, and had what tasted like a mild chilli taste to the sauce. The burgers and the Romesco chicken thighs were enjoyed by others. Beautifully cooked and nicely served. We were not rushed out of the restaurant when we finish. Hope to return again sometime.”

“Friendly relaxed environment. Fish and chips are amazing! Ice cold beer! Friendly wait staff! Highly recommend.”

“Fantastic pub, the live music was incredible and the staff are all lovely. Unfortunately the food fell a little short, one guest requested the steak “medium rare” and then made a specific request for it to be more rare, but it arrived medium done if not well done and with chips instead of the requested fries. The lobster pasta was also so incredibly garlicky. I know there can never be too much garlic in a dish, alas this pasta proved that statement wrong. I think maybe there was not enough lobster? So that they compensated with other ingredients? The starters were lovely and super fresh, would recommend the squid salad, absolutely delicious.”
