About The White Hart
The White Hart is a pub in Godalming and the smokehouse HQ of Dirty Sixth, found on Petworth Rd in an old pub building. The kitchen cooks wood-fired barbecue and serves the meat by the ½ pound on butchers paper, Texas meat-market style. For sharing, a tray gathers the cuts from the menu and comes with two sides, with mac n cheese among the choices. The bar pours beers on tap, homemade soft drinks and cocktails such as a spicy margarita. Zero-alcohol ciders and beers are stocked too, though the selection is not listed on the menu, so ask the team. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return for the sharing tray, a board of nearly every barbecue cut that comes with two sides and is described as generous and good value, with several noting it works well for sampling a bit of everything. Close behind are the sides, with mac n cheese called one of the best a reviewer has had, plus skinny fries, sweet potatoes and slaw. The cornflake ice cream sundae, spicy margaritas and lemon meringue martini get individual praise, and one parent notes baby back ribs on the kids menu. Servers are described as friendly, welcoming and attentive, and a few mention birthday cards and personal touches. The main complaint is pace: one diner waited an hour and 50 minutes for food after sitting down, and the pub is described as packed even midweek, with reviewers suggesting reserving on Fridays and Saturdays. One adds that zero-alcohol ciders and beers are not obvious on the menu, so it helps to ask. Diners also mention a garden at the front, partly under construction, where one enjoyed a drink after the meal.

“Oh my. What a treat this was! We got the tray to share which is essentially all the meat on a tray and it comes with 2 sides for £25. Absolute steal and the taste was out of this world. Highly recommend!”

“Cracking team! Stunning food! And amazing bar staff! Shout out to Tom for good recommendation on a wine to pair with the “sharing platter” (couldn’t single handily finish explains why it’s a sharer!) his service and character where impeccable! Along with the rest of the team! Very polite and friendly!”

“Had a thoroughly enjoyable time here at the dirty sixth restaurant. Service was top notch from the get go and were very accomodating with our 1 year old. The food was also excellent, the sharing tray was good value and the sides complimented everything. Will be back to try more.”

“We had an absolutely fantastic dining experience. The ambiance was warm, rustic, and inviting, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed and memorable meal. We ordered the sharing tray, and it was outstanding—beautifully presented, incredibly generous in portion, and packed with delicious flavours. It was the perfect choice for sampling a variety of dishes and made the meal feel even more special. A special mention must go to Freddie, who looked after us throughout our visit. His customer service was exceptional—friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. He made sure we had everything we needed and added a personal touch that truly elevated our experience. To top it all off, the restaurant has a lovely garden at the front. Although parts of it were under construction during our visit, it was still peaceful, well maintained, and the perfect place to unwind with a drink after our meal. With amazing food, a wonderful atmosphere, and first-class service from Freddie, this is a place I would highly recommend. We look forward to visiting again soon.”

Highlights
“The White Hart, Witley is the smokehouse HQ of Dirty Sixth. Inspired by the history and heritage of American pitmasters, but with a distinctly modern British accent, we're as far removed from your typical American, sticky-sauce, neon-light, slap-my-thigh-and-holla-yahoo barbecue joint as it's possible to be. We strive to be different. We are 100% real-deal, wood-fired pitmasters, cooking hot and fresh barbecue every single day. This is our speciality, our art, our reason for being. The concept is simple: all-natural, high-welfare meat served by the ½ pound, Texas meat-market style, on butchers paper, with fresh zingy sides and indulgent desserts.”
