About Wooden Bridge
On Woodbridge Hill in Guildford, Wooden Bridge is a pub and restaurant run as a local venue. The kitchen serves classic pub fare, and steaks and fajitas are on the menu alongside it. Dogs are welcome, so visitors can bring their own along when they come in. Because it operates as both a pub and a restaurant, the same venue works for a drink or for a sit-down meal, and the food menu gives guests more than one way to order.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the friendly, welcoming staff. Beer and wine selection, pool and karaoke get mentions, and one diner enjoyed the Chick 'n' Mix combo with buttermilk chicken fillet and southern-fried skewer ordered through the app. One finds pints a tad costly. Another was frustrated when staff refused a fourth beer after an ID check over a phone photo of a licence.

“I visited this pub with two friends on Tuesday evening at around 7:30 pm to watch the Champions League football and enjoy a few beers. Initially, everything was perfectly normal. I ordered drinks, we ordered food, and there were absolutely no issues. However, after finishing my third beer, I went to order another one. That was when a female member of staff suddenly asked me for ID. I showed her a photo of my driving licence on my phone and explained that my physical licence had been sent to the DVLA for an address change, so I was waiting for it to be returned. I also offered to show my UK eVisa to verify my immigration status and explain my circumstances, but it was dismissed. A male member of staff, who was considerably larger than me and wearing glasses, then came over to speak to me. Ironically, he was the very same person who had served me when I first arrived and had sold me all three of my previous beers. He then spent a considerable amount of time explaining why he would not serve me another drink. So I have a very simple question: if you genuinely had concerns about my age, why was I allowed to purchase and consume three beers before anyone decided to check my ID? Shouldn’t this have been established before serving me in the first place? I understand that pubs have a legal responsibility to verify customers’ ages, and I have no problem with legitimate ID checks. However, the way this situation was handled was extremely frustrating and made me feel singled out and unfairly treated. I was told that my electronic visa was not acceptable. But what exactly was I expected to do? Not everyone carries a passport around, and not everyone has a full driving licence available at all times. My licence was temporarily with the DVLA, and I offered to provide alternative evidence. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the staff simply shut down the conversation. What made the experience even worse was what happened next. My friend went to order another beer, and he was served without any problem. However, staff made it clear that I was not allowed to drink any more alcohol and that if they saw me drinking, our entire group would be kicked out of the pub. Why was my friend allowed to enjoy his evening while I was singled out and threatened with being removed from the premises? I had done nothing disruptive, caused no trouble, and simply wanted to watch football and enjoy a drink with my friends. The entire experience left me feeling humiliated, unwelcome and deeply disappointed. The difference in how I was treated compared with my friends raises serious concerns about whether customers are being treated consistently and fairly. Given the circumstances, I cannot help but question whether prejudice or discrimination played a role. I am not asking for special treatment. I am asking for consistency, common sense, and basic respect for customers. I expect the management to investigate this incident, review how the staff handled the situation, and explain why I was served three beers before being challenged about my ID, why my alternative documentation was dismissed, and why I was threatened with removal while my friends continued to be served. A pub should be a welcoming place where people can enjoy a football match with friends, not somewhere customers are made to feel embarrassed and unwelcome without a clear and consistently applied explanation. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this pub to anyone looking for a relaxed and enjoyable evening. The way this situation was handled was unacceptable, and I hope management takes this complaint seriously rather than dismissing it.”
