About The Good Intent
The Good Intent is a wood-beamed village pub in Guildford, at 60-62, with an inglenook fireplace and a garden. The garden has a cycle rack and is used by walkers on the North Downs Way and by cyclists, so it works as a stop along a route. The menu is simple and built around burgers, including the Good Intent burger, with a roast also served. Timothy Taylor is on tap for those who want a pint with the meal. Dogs are welcome. The pub has a small car park, and parking can be an issue.

Customer Review Summary
Burgers and chips draw the most praise, with diners naming the house burger and a pulled pork burger, and one group agreeing the chunky chips were the highlight. Close behind are lamb shank, beef stew, a pate starter and a children's roast described as nearly as big as the adult one. Reviewers also single out Atlantic IPA, Timothy Taylor and a Guinness, and one mentions a band and BBQ in the garden. Several describe a lovely, cozy, friendly village pub with locals at the bar. The complaints are specific. One cyclist reports staff on their phones and an abrupt instruction not to finish their own sandwiches in the garden while drinking pints bought there. Another finds the village car park tiny, and one calls the menu not that varied. Walkers and cyclists on the North Downs Way turn up repeatedly, stopping for lunch or dinner partway through or at the end of a route.

“I'm not from the area, but it's the second time I've visited recently. The ale was good and there was a band playing in the garden with a BBQ on the go as well. Parking can be a bit of an issue. It's a small village and although there's a car park, it's tiny.”

“We were cycling the NDW and came across the good intent. All 3 staff members were on their phones at the bar , even when served by 1 the other 2 still on phones. We sat in garden as nice and sunny and 2 other families were eating pack lunches. A member of staff abruptly told us we couldn’t eat our sandwich in the garden with our pints that we had ordered . She came back 2 minutes later saying you can’t finish your sandwich. She was very abrupt. At this stage the other 2 families had left. There is a cycle rack in the garden encouraging cyclists etc. they need to have a sign up saying don’t eat your own food in the garden!! Shame as lovely garden. Won’t be back.”
