About McCanns Coffee House

On Main Rod in Glasgow, McCanns Coffee House is a coffee shop that takes walk-ins rather than bookings, so waiting to be seated is standard practice. The breakfast comes on a heated plate, with a smaller "Wee Breakfast" option for lighter appetites, and homemade cakes sit alongside gluten free choices. Dogs are welcome inside, and they come with a free sausage alongside their owner's breakfast. High chairs are set out for families with young children, and the step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs. It opens daily through the daytime only. Parking directly outside is limited to fifteen minutes, though a car park up the road offers a longer-stay option for anyone settling in.

Customer Review Summary

Breakfast is the main draw, from a full breakfast with smoked bacon on a heated plate to pancakes with bacon and a fried egg, soft and with a nice burst of yolk. Close behind are the friendly, welcoming staff, several of whom reviewers say go the extra mile, and food described as fresh and cooked to order. Hot chocolate, lattes and homemade cakes also earn praise, and prices are called reasonable, though one diner found the Wee Breakfast and the pancake portion small. The sharpest complaint comes from a regular who describes service slipping: a long wait for anyone to take the order, a longer wait for food with no apology, then being told no table was free while an empty table for four was held for a possible larger group. One group of twelve reports drinks and food arriving quickly, and a dog owner notes the sausages for their dogs came cut into bite-sized pieces without asking.

“Arrived today hoping to grab a table as we’re regular customers and have always enjoyed coming here. The food has always been great, but the service lately has been really poor. A few weeks ago we were in and waited over 15 minutes just to order, and that was only because we had to ask if someone could take it. We then waited over 45 minutes for our food. We totally get places get busy, but there was no apology, no update, and the staff just seemed fed up. Today was the final straw. We waited to be seated and were asked if we were sitting in. We said yes, and were told there were no tables available. There was clearly an empty table for four, so we pointed it out. The waitress said they were keeping it in case a larger group came in and that she hadn’t cleaned it yet. I’m sorry, but turning away regular customers on the chance that a bigger table might come in is just ridiculous. Clean the table and seat the customers you’ve actually got. Such a shame because we really liked this place, but after the last couple of visits we’ll be taking our custom elsewhere.”

“We showed up with a group of 12 and any other establishment may have been overwhelmed. The service was amazing. The drinks.-We had a variety of coffee, lattes, Frappuccino's, smoothies. Everyone loved them. The food was delicious. I seriously can't believe he was able to keep up with the amount of orders we had and bring out the drinks and food so quickly. I would highly recommend this place.”

“Well, this was a bit different. In an attempt to find an alternative to Motorway services a Google search for somewhere that would be open for breakfast after an early start for home, came up with McCanns. Initially unsure, since it was a high street cafe, but the reviews and photos looked OK and it was only a few minutes off the Motorway. On entering, first impressions were of a smart, well kept cafe and we were pleasantly created by one of the staff, who steered us to a table. Menu was pleasantly varied. Both meals arrived in good time and son after the drinks had been served. The food was excellently cooked and a joy to eat, with noticeable items, like aptoper slice of bread, tarbert than the usual square supermarket slice. Pricing was good too, much the same as other cafes. Although the parking bays outside are 15 minutes only, there is a car park just up the road. All in all a great little stop and one to remember.”

“The staff here are very friendly and welcoming. They would go the extra mile to satisfy their customers. The Food here was Top Notch 👌 all fresh and cooked to order. The prices here are very reasonable for the quality of food that won't break the bank in these days. I highly recommend you try this if your in the area you won't be disappointed.”

“We had a great breakfast here today! The food was fresh, tasty and came out quickly. Megan was absolutely lovely – so friendly, attentive and helpful. She really made the experience even better. It’s always nice when staff go the extra mile. We’ll definitely be back!”
