About Café D'Jaconelli

On Maryhill Rd in Glasgow, Café D'Jaconelli is a cafe and ice cream shop fitted out with vintage wallpaper and a jukebox, keeping its retro Italian cafe look intact. The menu runs from a full Scottish breakfast with tatty scone and morning rolls to mac and cheese with chips, alongside milkshakes and ice creams, including an Oreo milkshake. Both eat in and takeaway are available. The cafe is family-run, with staff at the counter and family working behind the scenes. Seating is limited to a few booths, so a wait for a table is common. It's a walk-in spot with no booking, open daily. The step-free entrance suits visitors with mobility needs, high chairs are available for families with young children, and dogs are welcome inside.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers return most for the breakfast, especially the full Scottish and the classic big breakfast, praised for quality ingredients, a superb tatty scone and value several call astonishing. Close behind are the morning rolls and other classic cafe dishes, with one reviewer ordering the mac and cheese with chips and the Oreo milkshake, and another a soup, two breads and a latte. The retro booths, juke box and vintage wallpaper give a time-travel feel that long-time locals and newer visitors both describe, along with a family atmosphere. Staff are called friendly, quick and kind to older regulars. The ice creams and milkshakes are called good but not exceptional by one reviewer. The recurring trade-off is space: it is not a big place, only a few booths exist, and several mention waiting for a table, though one says tables free up fairly quickly. One reviewer was seated by the woman serving, who they found efficient and hard working.

“Food lovely and at very reasonable prices. Had to wait for a table but the woman serving me was fantastic. She got me a seat, friendly, efficient and such a hard worker. Likewise her husband and son in the back. Loved the old style Italian retro cafe and fittings. An institution in Maryhill. Highly recommend. Grazie”
  • Jamie Wightwick
“One of those places so good you're not actually sure if you should spread the word lest it get descended upon! I went for their classic big breakfast, and it was brilliant - quality ingredients, expertly cooked (superb tatty scone technique!) and astonishing value. It's not a big place, so getting a booth might prove challenging, but it has a fantastic vintage charm, and really lovely and helpful staff. I'll be back for sure 😊”
  • Daniel Gabriel
“A Glasgow institution serving up classic Scottish cafe fare. Great morning rolls, full Scottish breakfast and plenty of other classic dishes, all at very reasonable prices. Friendly staff and quick service. 10/10”
  • Travelling citizen
“Fab proper Scottish-Italian cafe, we loved the breakfast and family feel. At a time where all buildings look the same (monotone Scandi look) it was great to step into a place with character and real cafe vibes. Good prices too!”
  • Maryam Shabestari
“I love the history of this place, the retro booths, the juke box, the vintage wall paper and fixtures, the time travel feel of it. The service is nice too, it has a family ambiance. The ice creams and milk shakes are good but not exceptional.”
