About Kember & Jones
Kember & Jones is a cafe at 134 Byres Rd in Glasgow, with a deli and a book shop on the same site. Breakfast is served all day from its own menu, which includes bacon rolls, and a separate lunch menu adds BLTs. Sandwiches and rolls are made with sourdough. A counter displays home-baked cakes, scones and tray bakes, and the banana bread comes with crème fraiche. Coffee is the cafe's own espresso blend, which pairs with the baking. The cafe is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Banana bread is the most frequent draw, with reviewers praising the banana bread with crème fraiche and a banana cake they call soft and fragrant, though one finds the portion big enough for two to split. Close behind are the brunch and lunch plates: waffles with bananas, blueberries and cherry compote, courgette soup, a huge sandwich, and a roast beef sandwich on sourdough whose taste one reviewer calls excellent. The cake display and friendly staff come up repeatedly, and the room gets busy and noisy around noon. Coffee divides opinion. Some call it great, while others found it overly strong and burnt, or a cortado with overheated, old-tasting milk. Two reviewers call the food fine but nothing special, one citing overcooked poached eggs. The sharpest complaint describes a bacon roll on a dry, stale sourdough bap with brittle bacon, plus takeaway pastries that seemed old. That same reviewer asked for a BLT before lunch service and heard a kitchen staffer say to just offer him a bacon roll.

“I had heard good things about this place and it was fine. Food was tasty enough but nothing special, eggs over cooked for poached eggs, avocado toast, nothing special. Coffee was overly strong to the point it seemed burnt. Cakes were huge portions, much more than required by any single person and to be honest they were fine but nothing special. Its a good place for average food thats prepared well but nothing more in my experiance. Ive been to better places for less cost.”

“Really disappointed. Was looking for morning breakfast brunch and hit the Byers road, considered all 4 eateries on the cross roads ( tinderbox, little itally, the French one next door and Kember and Jones) decided on here based on the menu outside and overall look and feel. On first entry it looks great the counter is great and display of cakes is impressive. The girl serving was police friendly and helpful but sadly that is about where it end. There are 2 menus one for lunch and one for breakfast, the lunch one has BLTs and the breakfast one bacon rolls. I thought I'd ask to see if I could have a Blt with it not being lunch menu times yet ( it's a bacon roll with Mayo lettus and a slice of tomato) we were the only table in and there was 6 staff in total (5 staff behind the counter 3 of which were in the kitchen, and 1 girl on the floor serving. "Just offer him a bacon roll " One if the kitchen staff stated. YeaI kind of figured that part myself. So not worry we opted for 2 normal bacon rolls. The floury sourdough bap was so dry / stale that it was a real struggle to eat. Each mouth full having to be washed down with a drink. My wife picked the bacon from hers and left most of the roll. The streaky bacon had been cooked to the point it was brittle and crumbly. We ordered a few cakes to take away. Again the Danish was dry ( been sat too long) and the empire soft ( also too old) A really dissapointing visit for a venue that on the surface looks welcoming and appealing. The real irony was there was a massive tub of prepped lettus in the kitchen. Doubt we will be back.”

“Whilst walking down Byers Road, looking for somewhere to have Coffee and Cake, we spotted Kember & Jones. We were so pleased to have found it. The coffees and cakes we chose were delicious. All the food that was being served to tables around us looked amazing. There was an excellent choice of cakes/scones/tray bakes on show. The café and takeaway was very busy. The staff were all very friendly, pleasant and polite. Would highly recommend a visit here. Play up pomey ⚽️ 😉”
