About Waxy O'Connor's Glasgow
On West George Street in Glasgow, Waxy O'Connor's is a pub built around a large beech tree that runs through the centre of the building across three floors. The interior is church-like, with stained glass and intricate woodwork, and the multilevel layout spreads over several floors with many separate seating areas and nooks. The bar pours beers, spirits and whiskeys. The food menu includes bacon and cabbage, steak served in a pot, and fish fingers in a brioche with fries, coleslaw and Mediterranean veg. Orders are placed at the bar, and the food is brought to your table. Live music plays in the evenings and on Sundays, and sport is shown as well. The pub is open daily.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most to the multilevel, maze-like interior, where woodwork that one reviewer says was salvaged from an old church, stained glass and hidden nooks lead between several bars. One describes a beech tree spanning three floors, and a few compare the look to Lord of the Rings or the hobbit. Close behind is the food, with fish fingers in brioche served with crunchy fries and coleslaw praised by two diners, and another recommending the steak in a pot. Reviewers also mention cider, machine gun lager, and live music in the evening, and several describe the service as great or fabulous. The caveats are uneven service and food. One daytime visitor felt the bartender seemed inconvenienced to take an order and found the food nothing special for the price. Another ordered the bacon and cabbage and received a ham steak with peas, with nobody from the kitchen around to explain.

“We had a brilliant time at Waxy O'Connor's! It is such a nice and cozy bar with a truly unique, maze-like layout. Spread across several floors, the nice interior features incredible woodwork, stained glass, and hidden nooks that make exploring the venue half the fun. The overall cool bar environment creates a warm, lively atmosphere that's perfect for grabbing a pint with friends or just taking in the rustic surroundings. It feels like stepping into a hidden wooden world right in the center of Glasgow. A well-deserved 5 stars, definitely a must-visit spot for a great drink in an unforgettable venue!”

“Mine was a fleeting visit but I will definitely be back. Sat outside with a beer and a simply delicious fish finger brioche with crunchy fries, coleslaw and some mediterranean veg. It was superb! Very hearty, hot and tasty. The inside goes on for miles with lots of different seating areas. Great place. Highly recommend.”

“Checked out this place after a few recommendations and it was a great place to stop off to enjoy a pint or two along with some live music. Came on a Sunday so the vibe was a lot more chilled, I imagine it gets busier on the fri and sat! Also appreciate the uncanny resemblance/comparison to the LOTR aesthetics”
