About The Ark Glasgow
On North Frederick Street in Glasgow, The Ark Glasgow is a city centre pub spread over two floors, with a large TV screen and a pool table inside. The menu runs to 73 items and centres on burgers, including The Haggis Burger, the Chicken Katsu Burger and the New York Burger. Football and World Cup matches show on the TVs, and the large beer garden out the back adds a second pool table and more sports screens, which gives groups watching a match room to spread out. Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the lively sports-bar atmosphere, especially for football and the World Cup, with pool tables, extra TVs and a garden with a terrace that one reviewer calls great for hen and stag dos. Burgers and chicken wings are named, one diner preferring the hot and honey buffalo sauce over the Korean sweet sriracha, though skin potatoes came as a very small portion. Close behind, the friendly bar staff and the beer selection draw repeated praise, and one reviewer notes noise carries in the large open space. The recurring complaint is the door security. Two reviewers call the guards impolite, and one describes being refused re-entry at half-time during the World Cup final, only getting back in after challenging it, with the guard declining to give his name. Another reviewer reports a booked boozy brunch table given away within the stated 30 minutes, the brunch menu unavailable, the ordering app not working, and toilets without soap or working dryers. One group with a booking mix-up was told to stay seated and was offered a complimentary drink each.

“I’ve been coming to this pub for many World Cup games over the past few weeks and have spent a significant amount of money here because I’ve genuinely enjoyed the atmosphere. Unfortunately, my experience during the World Cup final completely changed my opinion. At half-time, my group stepped outside for a few minutes to get some fresh air, fully intending to return to continue watching the match. When we tried to come back in, the door supervisor abruptly told us there was “no more entry”. His manner was cold, dismissive and unnecessarily rude, with no attempt to explain the situation or speak to us respectfully. What made this particularly frustrating was that the pub was significantly quieter than previous matches, particularly the England vs Argentina game, when far more people had been inside. Despite this, we were initially refused entry and only allowed back in after we challenged the decision. We also weren’t the only people being treated this way. Another customer was having exactly the same issue, and his wife, who was already inside the pub, came to the door herself to tell the door supervisor how ridiculous it was that her husband was being prevented from re-entering. It was clear that several customers were left frustrated by the way the situation was being handled. After spending a significant amount of money and time here throughout the World Cup, it was incredibly disappointing to be treated as though our custom counted for nothing. To make matters worse, when I politely asked the door supervisor for his name or to see his SIA badge so I could raise my concerns with management, he refused. I completely understand that pubs have to manage capacity and that door staff have a difficult job. However, if management had genuinely decided not to allow re-entry, that policy should have been communicated clearly before people stepped outside. Instead, customers were met with poor communication, unnecessary confrontation and a complete lack of respect. It’s a real shame because, until tonight, this had been my favourite place to watch the World Cup. One interaction with a rude and dismissive member of security has completely overshadowed what had otherwise been a great experience. The bar staff are class though! P.s. I included a time stamped photo I took during first half as evidence! *Edit* Having since seen other reviews from the same night raising similar experiences with security, it seems to have been a problem for the final. It’s especially disappointing that this happened during the World Cup final. After weeks of this being the place to be for the tournament, it felt like all the hype and buzz of this pub built up over the previous games disappeared in one night and customers were suddenly treated like they didn’t matter.”

“Top class food, top class bartenders. Leaving a review purely for how impolite the security guards are. I understand their job is to ensure safety of the public however being impolite and choosing what people to let in isn’t exactly very professional. Its a shame letting the place down for this.”

“Lovely pub, didnt have food this visit, but amazing drinks menu and a good friendly environment. Very popular student place, didn't have that cosy vibe of a smaller pub being a bigger open space, noise does carry but you can still have a chat and enjoy time in a smaller group.”

“Brilliant time there, very professional staff. Went once again a few days ago with my friends. We sat at a table seeing it was reserved for 5pm, seeing it was 3pm, we stayed seated. We were politely informed by the supervisor Shibion about a mix up with the booking system, but told to sit and enjoy our meal and drinks while they sorted things out. It was no real inconvience at all on our part as we understood that it was not the staff's fault. We were then delighted when Shibion came back to us and said that everything has been sorted and we can sit at the table for as long as we like, and on top of that she offered each of the 3 of us a complimentary drink. Should also mention the food was excellent too. Thank you Shibion, that was real professionalism and kindness on your part. Appreaciate that and will definitely come back.”
