About Sam's Fowey
Sam's Fowey is a family-run restaurant in Fowey, on Fore St, and it has been open daily since 1987. The dining rooms sit in a 700-year-old merchants house, and the upstairs lounge keeps many of its original features. Fresh fish and shellfish lead the menu, with a bouillabaisse-style fish dish among them. Burgers, including a vegetarian one, run alongside the daily specials. Everything is cooked to order, so the kitchen can work around dietary needs and intolerances. Bread and butter pudding is on the menu, and cocktails are served as well. The restaurant takes both bookings and walk-ins.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and shellfish draw the most praise at Sam's, with diners singling out fresh scallops described as cooked perfectly, a red mullet with red Thai pesto in a huge portion, and a bouillabaisse called very high standard. Close behind, the burgers earn repeat mentions, including a vegetarian burger, and the bread and butter pudding is called phenomenal. Several mention generous portions, and one notes even the vegetables were unbelievably good. Reviewers describe friendly, welcoming staff, dog-friendly tables, and a busy room, with several suggesting booking ahead. The criticisms are mild but specific: one reviewer says the decor looks unchanged since opening, another feels the menu needs modernising and the bouillabaisse stock wanted more seasoning, and one table had a food hiccup, a vegetarian burger problem, that was put right quickly. One birthday party arrived to banners at the table, turned a calamari starter into a side dish for the mains, and finished with complimentary birthday shots.

“Went for lunch, friendly welcoming service. Had the red mullet with red Thai pesto and a side of fries. Huge portion and was delicious. Only downside is the decor which seems to be unchanged since it opened. Love the eclectic music and film memorabilia but pick your favourite pieces and redecorate!”

“Good vibe, great staff and delicious food 🥘 I went for a couple of small plates and some fries while my mate got his usual… it was all great. It’s always nice to know you’re in safe hands when eating out, and Sam’s in Fowey didn’t disappoint.”
