About Sam's On The Beach

Sam's On The Beach is a US-style bistro in Par, set in a former lifeboat station at 14 Polkerris, right on the beach. Fish leads the menu, with a bouillabaisse that also comes as a version for two, plus mussels, oysters and scallops. Pizzas share the menu with the seafood, including a goat's cheese pizza with red onions and rocket, and tiramisu is the dessert on offer. Sam's pilsner is served by the pint. Tables look out over the harbour and the sea, and there is seating by the window. Tables can be booked ahead.

Customer Review Summary

Bouillabaisse is the dish diners raise most, with one reviewer celebrating a birthday calling it outstanding and another praising the fish stew as the best. Close behind is the goat's cheese pizza with red onions and rocket, and others describe the pizzas as fresh and piping hot. Reviewers also single out the mussels with an incredible sauce, steak cooked to perfection, seafood linguine, scallops, oysters, chowder and sardines. For dessert, one table named the summer pudding the clear winner over the tiramisu, and one reviewer calls Sam's pilsner a beautiful pint. The sea and harbour views come up repeatedly, and the staff are described as friendly. The one recurring caveat is cost: a couple of reviewers say it isn't cheap or that diners should expect to pay a bit more, though both say the food justifies it. One party, told the inside was full, was seated in a pretty outbuilding, and another reviewer thanks the restaurant for accommodating a mussel allergy.

“Having read other reviews we thought we would come and make our own. We where bowled over by the place what a setting, having been seating in the window we set about ordering our food and where not disappointed when it arrived. We had it all from steak and pizza's to seafood platters and pastas, everything was cooked perfect and tasted heavenly we all left with full belies. You don't mind paying a bit more for good food and this was definitely good food. If we are back in town again we will definitely be back”

“My husband found this place while searching for the best places to eat in Cornwall, and what a find. The menu might throw you at first: a generous selection of pizzas alongside fresh fish and seafood dishes. For a restaurant right on the beach, the pizza section feels unexpected — but it works. Sams on the Beach is one of those rare places that can do multiple things very, very well. We had our final “big holiday meal” here, and it was unanimously the best meal of our entire week in Cornwall. It isn’t cheap, but good food — especially fish — rarely is. We booked a table for 14:45, a late lunch after a long coastal walk. With hindsight (and good weather), I would have had a long walk after lunch as well. The kids ordered a pizza and a children’s lasagne for their mains, plus focaccia with burrata and pesto to share as a starter. The adults had a couple of oysters and a chowder to begin, followed by sardines and bouillabaisse. Everything was absolutely delicious! For dessert, we shared a summer pudding and a tiramisu between the four of us — and the summer pudding was the clear winner. The staff were friendly, efficient, and served us with genuine smiles throughout. If you’re visiting this corner of Cornwall, you should absolutely book a table at Sams on the Beach. Never mind the missing apostrophe — the food more than makes up for it ten times over!”

“We visited Sam's On The Beach for dinner on a rainy Tuesday evening and were not disappointed. The setting is beautiful and, though they were full inside, we were seated in a gorgeous outbuilding which was so pretty and atmospheric. The food was great: my dad and I shared the bouillabaisse, and my mum had a goat's cheese pizza, which she said was excellent. The service was warm and friendly, particularly from the guy who had a really nice chat about Leicester and the football with my dad. Such a lovely night, and we will definitely be back next time we're in the area!”

“Absolutely loved this place! The location right by the sea is stunning, with beautiful views that make the whole experience even better. The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff were friendly and attentive, and the food was fantastic. The pizzas were fresh, delicious, and served piping hot. A special mention has to go to the pizza wheels—they were incredibly sharp and made cutting through the pizza effortless! It’s a small detail, but it really added to the experience. If you’re looking for great food, a wonderful seaside setting, and excellent service, I can’t recommend this restaurant enough. We’ll definitely be back!”
