About Tattu Edinburgh
Tattu Edinburgh is a Chinese restaurant at 18 W Register St in Edinburgh, run as an independent family business that two brothers founded in 2015. The interiors take their inspiration from tattoo art, which ties the room to the brand's identity. The kitchen serves a set menu and a sharing menu, so guests can choose between a fixed selection and dishes put out for the table. A cocktail menu runs alongside the food, and drinks are ordered with the meal. The name combines "tattoo" with "tatau," an old word from eastern culture that means to make a mark.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return to the set and sharing menus, praising the steak main, the salmon and a green beans side one reviewer calls the best on the menu. Others recommend the squid, broccoli, noodles and the cherry blossom dessert, and one pairs the beef with a caramel soy or miso sauce over asparagus. Servers draw nearly as much attention as the food, described as staff who explain every dish, offer recommendations and stay attentive without being intrusive. The room is called stunning and elegant, with trendy lounge music and mirrored tables. Several enjoy the cocktail menu, including Lucky Number 8 and Against the Current, though one found the cocktails for two a bit of a let down. The recurring complaint is volume: the music is loud in certain parts of the restaurant, which makes it difficult to chat. Even so, one reviewer still felt tucked away somewhere in the orient while hearing kitchen orders in the background.

“An unforgettable dining experience from start to finish! We visited Edinburgh for 5 days and came here 2 of the nights for dinner. The restaurant is absolutely stunning, with a beautiful atmosphere that feels both elegant and unique. The music is trendy lounge music, it really sets the vibe. Every dish was a work of art, not only beautifully presented but packed with incredible flavor. The cocktails were equally impressive and complemented the meal perfectly. What truly made the evening exceptional was the outstanding service. The staff were warm, attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel genuinely welcome throughout the entire experience. If you're looking for a special night out in Edinburgh, Tattu is an absolute must. It's the perfect combination of amazing food, exceptional service, and a breathtaking setting. We can't wait to come back!”

“Absolutely loved our visit today - stunning food, amazing service and lovely venue. Atmosphere buzzing but the only comment would be that the music is a little loud in certain parts of the restaurant so it’s a little difficult to chat. But would DEFINITELY recommend this place. Thanks to Marius for looking after us - top class service.”

“Absolutely beautiful restaurant. Hidden away on an unassuming side street we felt completely transported from the rainy Edinburgh Street on stepping inside. We were warmly welcomed and taken to our table. Our server, Kieran, was outstanding. So attentive and helped us navigate the menus and gave us great recommendations. The food was all outstanding, and the set menu was amazing value for money, and I could happily spend an afternoon just working through the beautiful cocktail menu.”

“We were visiting Edinburgh. We had a lovely time at Tattu! Our waiter, Keiron was amazing and made our evening even more enjoyable. He gave us excellent recommendations, which we really appreciated. The food was delicious, and we chose the £92 per person sharing menu, which was well worth it. Overall, we had a fantastic experience the atmosphere and food were amazing , and we’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend!”

“Tattu is an independent family run business founded in 2015 by two brothers. Tattu brand set out with a clear vision – to bring something unique and exciting to the UK culinary scene. The word Tattu is derived from a combination of ‘Tattoo’ the art form that inspires our interiors and ‘Tatau’ which is an ancient word from eastern culture that means to ‘make a mark’. The goal was to build a customer experience around the brand that stimulates all senses, fusing beautiful and meaningful design with quality and innovative Chinese cooking.”
