About Saffron Indian & Bangladeshi Restaurant

Saffron Indian and Bangladeshi Restaurant is an Indian restaurant on High Street in Eastleigh, serving Bangladeshi dishes alongside the broader Indian range. The menu covers biryani in lamb and chicken, paneer curry, samosa, cheese naan and a vegetable platter, with Shatkora lamb among the more distinctive plates. The dining room is set out in a traditional style, kept simple rather than over the top. Service follows a fixed house rule, and starters alone cannot be ordered without a main course, with the team applying the policy at the table. The restaurant has seated large groups of around ten on busy Saturday evenings at short notice, making it workable for bigger bookings without forward planning. The room takes walk-ins through the week.

Customer Review Summary

Split reactions define this listing. Several diners single out the biryani, calling it among the worst they have tasted, with undercooked samosas, soggy veg platters, and an almost flavorless paneer curry also named. Others praise the food as delicious and highlight the Shatkora lamb, with one server singled out for kindness despite a starter-only policy that left some visitors frustrated.

“I ordered two biryanis through Uber Eats—one lamb and one chicken. Biryani is one of my favourite dishes, so I was really looking forward to trying them. Unfortunately, I was extremely disappointed with both. I have eaten biryani from many different places, and I can genuinely say this was one of the worst I have ever tasted. The flavour and overall taste were very disappointing. Even when I make biryani at home with only basic ingredients, it tastes much better than what I received. My intention is not simply to leave a negative review or harm the restaurant’s reputation. As a customer and someone who really enjoys Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine, I wanted to share my honest experience so the restaurant can take the feedback into consideration and hopefully improve the quality of the food in the future.”

“I will start by saying our server was very pleasant, and unfortunately had to apologise for a policy that he did not want to implement. We walked in on a quiet evening, less than half the tables filled. We just wanted some starters and unfortunately didn’t read the policy at the start of the menu which I take responsibility for. But they do not allow you to order starters alone. I would understand had the restaurant been full. We were happy to order food and fill a table which would otherwise had been empty. But unfortunately we felt we had to leave or be forced to order something we didn’t want. Our server had to appologise, saying he didn’t agree with it but would get in trouble if he didn’t implement it. Thanks to him for his service and kindness, but management need to have a bit of a reality check.”
